Hi Orlando, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Orlando, better know as Nandy Tattoo. I was born in Cuba, and when I was 18 I made my first tattoo on the skin of a pork, just for fun, never I through that this will become my pasion. On my second day of having my tattoo machine a did a tattoo on a friend and on the third day I did my first tattoo on my self. My mother didnt like tattoo and when I got my first tattoo machine she told me if I got a tattoo she will throw away my tattoo machine. when she notice that I got a tattoo, she hide my tattoo machine. After 3 months I found it in a closet and begin to tattoo again for free. Than with the time I be han to charge for tattoo, I remember that I use to go to people home a to tattoo or they will come to my house were I had a set up. I use to charge $1 dollar for a tattoo that now I charge $350 dollar. In cuba there is not a lot Of condition and materials, I use to clean client skin with oled t-shirt that I use to cut in parts. In 2021 I began to have problem in Cuba because of the government and I came to usa. When I got here I thought that I will never be able to tattoo again, however with a lot of sacrifice and hard work with ñ only 2 years of being in the USA I was able to open my Studio. Today I have a Studio in apopka that I will never imagine in the past that I could have with other tattoo artist working for me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It have been a hard Road with a lot of times that I thought that I would not make it. First when I came here and I thought that I will never make it, first because of the language and than because I didnt know How to do it and How think could work here with the certificacions and all of that. Than when I open my I was working for an Studio while I was making money to be able to open my Studio and my my personal bills, when the owner of that Studio notice he told me that I was not able to continué working with them because he knew that I was opening my Studio and that could bring conflicts, which I completed understood.
