Today we’d like to introduce you to Ray Davis.
Hi Ray, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I spent 12 years in the culinary industry, which was my first passion. Over the years, I lost that passion. I purchased a used riding mower to maintain my lawn after a few years of push mowing it. Not long after a few of my neighbors asked me if I could mow their lawns and I quickly found my passion for lawn care. I realized that I could earn the same amount of pay in couple of hours mowing as I did in a full day at a restaurant. I came up with this crazy idea that I could start my own business. That was the summer of 2022. By September 2022 my crazy idea had turned into a legal business. I maintained my position at a local restaurant while dedicating my spare time to promoting and establishing my business. As I honed and crafted my skills, business began to grow and I left the culinary industry to dedicate myself full time in lawn care. Fast forward to today, I have grown the business father than I ever thought possible, from simply mowing lawns to full scale landscaping.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been anything but smooth. It has been the most challenging and stressful venture of my life, but also so rewarding and fulfilling. I had no idea how much time and effort owning and operating a small business actually required. I have wanted to give up time and time again. The reality of it is that every day there is going to be multiple obstacles that try to stop success. Equipment breaks down, you get sick, your children get sick. Life happens, but I refuse to give up on my dream.
We’ve been impressed with Quality Cutz Lawn Service, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Quality Cutz serves the north Lake County area, Eustis, Grand Island, Umatilla, Tavares, Mount Dora, and Leesburg. We are known for and loved by our clients for our three principles of business, Reliability, Honesty, and Quality. Nothing brings me more pride than our clients recommending Quality Cutz and putting their name and word on the line for us. If there’s one thing I want people to know about Quality Cutz it is that as a native of Lake county, I love to help add to and maintain the beauty of the place I was born, raised, and reside.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
The best advice I could give to anyone is to get out there and talk to the people who are in the same industry. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. It’s one of the most effective ways to learn and grow. Don’t shy away from making mistakes, they are an essential part of the process.
