Hidden Gems: Meet Ross Pelusi of Ross Lawn and Order

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ross Pelusi.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My family relocated to Florida from Pennsylvania only a few short months before the world came to a screeching halt in the face of COVID. My wife was provided an opportunity to follow her dream job, so leaving behind family, friends and familiarity we made the move. My wife stuck by me for the past 18 years while I was deployed to Iraq for over a year to support Operation Iraqi Freedom with the Army, cutting my Bachelor’s pursuit short. She stuck by me when I pursued and landed a career as a police officer which I had for about 13 years. And, she stuck by me when I went back to school to finish my Bachelor’s after our daughter was born. So, when she told me we could move and she could work in a position almost too perfectly suited for her, I jumped at the opportunity. After all, this gave me the chance to start my own business and do the work I truly enjoyed which I had often done in my free time and as a younger man – landscaping, hardscaping and fence installation. Did COVID put a bit of a strain on our family at the onset of starting this business? Sure, but whose life wasn’t impacted? However, we try to remember all we had gone through during my service in the Army and as a police officer and can’t help but we thankful for this crazy journey we’ve been on.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Covid and material shortages have been the biggest challenges. In a way working outdoors made it so I could still meet with people and keep our distances. But COVID has had its biggest impact in that there are national shortages on many different materials. But if I had to take away all the struggles I have been facing because of covid, which I am sure every small business has faced. Our challenges are operating in a new state and new industry with no support system. However, my neighborhood and all the amazing friends we have made in the area have been completely life-changing. Their consistent support has been life-altering. Without it, we could not be the business we are today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
