Hidden Gems: Meet Samuel Aguilar of Over The Border Taqueria

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Aguilar.

Hi Samuel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’m originally from San Diego, California. Born & raised in one of the most famous border cities in the country, I always used to visit my family every weekend in Tijuana, BC. on the other side of the border and see the taco stands making tacos in front of you with the smoking charcoal & wood, the al pastor on the fire.

Fresh tortillas. The fresh guac slapped on the taco. The Tijuana taco truly is a craft. My roots inspired me to bring a great taco to Orlando for people to try.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was tough in the beginning. Measuring food costs. Service times. But little by little I’ve been forming a great team cutting down on mistakes.

We’ve been impressed with Over The Border Taqueria, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We specialize in bringing one of the most authentic-tasting tacos to Florida flavor-wise and culturally. We make our steak on charcoal and wood just like in Mexico, we include guacamole on each taco that not many places do here.

We offer a wide variety of food. Quesadillas, Mulitas, and Tacos. I am most proud of Brand Wise that we get to show and serve a different taco to Orlando & eventually Florida someday

What do you like and dislike about the city?
The best thing about Orlando is that it’s a big foodie town so people know good food from bad.

I also like the things to do here the scenery & diversity in cultures. The least I like is the weather I’m a west coast kid so the weather is way better out there.

I truly miss the west coast food & Mexican food in general back home in California was the best.
