Hidden Gems: Meet Sara Neal of Sara Neal Creative Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Neal.

Hi Sara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m Sara Neal, a brand identity designer and founder of Sara Neal Creative Studio. I live just outside Orlando with my husband and our two kids.

My path into branding has been a natural evolution, grounded in my long-standing love for photography and design. I began my Bachelor of Arts degree with an emphasis in photography at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and later added graphic design as a second emphasis—drawn to how both disciplines could work together to tell a visual story. After graduation, I spent several years working as an art director, lifestyle photographer, and creative director, most notably for a magazine and later at a boutique branding agency. I loved the collaborative, fast-paced environment, but after becoming a mom in 2018 and relocating to Florida later that year, I knew it was time for a new chapter.

In 2019, I officially stepped into the world of freelancing. It took a few years to feel fully confident taking that leap, but every step of my education and career laid the groundwork. I also found a great digital networking community through Together Digital, which gave me the support and connections I needed to build momentum and grow. Over the past five years, I’ve honed my services, discovered the kinds of clients I love working with, and found my rhythm as a solopreneur.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not always smooth—but each bump in the road has taught me something valuable. When I first started freelancing, I had just left the structure of agency life, moved to a new state, and was caring for my one-year-old daughter. I didn’t have any local connections or a clear plan—just a strong creative foundation and the hope that I could build something sustainable. It was honestly pretty overwhelming in the beginning.

One of the turning points came when I connected with Spark Orlando, our local Freelancers Union chapter. Through that group, I met someone who’s now a close friend and colleague, and she introduced me to Together Digital. That connection opened the door to a broader network of women across the country who were also navigating freelance life and entrepreneurship. Being part of that community helped me feel supported, seen, and not so alone in the process.

In 2021, I had my second child. Navigating freelance life with young kids has been incredibly demanding—there’s always something to juggle, and the mental load of switching between work and parenting is real. But one thing I’m grateful for is that freelancing gave me the flexibility to divide my time in a way that traditional office jobs never really allowed. In past roles, it was hard to find that kind of balance or support, especially in environments that weren’t built with working moms in mind. Being able to structure my days around both my creative work and my family’s needs has made a big difference, even if it’s not always easy.

The pandemic was a pivotal point for me. While it disrupted a lot, it also pushed me to connect more intentionally online. That time helped me lean into the digital community I had started building and showed me how powerful it can be to surround yourself with people who understand the season you’re in. That sense of connection really shaped how I grew my business during those early years.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Sara Neal Creative Studio?
Sara Neal Creative Studio is my independent design practice based just outside Orlando. I specialize in brand identity design, helping small businesses—especially women-owned—create branding that feels personal, thoughtful, and aligned with their values.

What I’m known for is combining artistic instinct with strategy. I don’t just design logos—I walk clients through a full brand discovery and design process that helps them gain clarity and confidence in how they show up. My background in lifestyle photography and graphic design gives me a unique lens on visual storytelling, and I love helping people create brands that feel true to who they are.

My work includes strategy-first branding, logo design, brand style guides, and creative direction for things like photography and packaging. I’m especially proud of the collaborative relationships I’ve built with clients.

I really enjoy walking through the creative process with my clients and watching them get excited about their own brand. I love moments when ideas start flowing, things begin to click, and there’s a new sense of momentum building around their launch. That kind of clarity and energy is what I aim to create through every project.

At the end of the day, I want my clients to feel energized and seen. My goal is to deliver more than a brand—I want them to walk away with the tools and confidence to move forward.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
If I could share anything with someone just starting out, it’s this: don’t be afraid to evolve. Your style, your niche, and your client base will shift over time—and that’s not a sign you’re doing it wrong. It’s growth. Be patient with yourself, especially if you’re building something on your own. Freelancing can feel isolating, so having a support network—people you can bounce ideas off of or lean on for advice—makes a huge difference. And finally, build a process. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but having a framework gives you clarity and helps your clients feel supported, too. That structure creates space for creativity, and that’s where the magic really happens.
