Today we’d like to introduce you to Simone Blake.
Simone, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I always say my journey started right in my grandmother’s kitchen in Oklahoma City. That was the heart of our family — cousins running in and out, sleepovers, and plenty of love. Somewhere in the middle of all that chaos, I discovered I had a gift for hair. Once my cousins realized I was good at it, they lined up and kept me busy, turning my grandma’s kitchen into my first salon.
One day, my grandmother — after finding a strand of hair in her food — told me, “Raysheeda, you need to take yourself to beauty school!” I laughed it off at first. My plan was to become a doctor. But I agreed to go to cosmetology school “in the meantime,” and that decision changed the entire direction of my life. I fell in love with the craft, and I never looked back.
What started as a hobby grew into a passion and then into a career. I’ve now spent over 16 years behind the chair and more than a decade running my own business. Through that time, I’ve had the honor of meeting incredible women and witnessing powerful transformations — not just in their hair, but in their confidence. My favorite moment is when a client looks in the mirror after a long day or a hard season and sees herself as radiant and unstoppable. That spark in her eyes is what keeps me doing what I do.
Today, my mission is bigger than styling hair — it’s about creating a space where women feel seen, heard, and beautiful. This work has taken me places I never imagined and taught me that beauty isn’t just about appearance — it’s about empowerment, connection, and community
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s definitely not been a smooth road. I built my career in Oklahoma City as a traveling stylist with clients all over — everywhere except Florida. So when I made the decision to relocate here, I knew I’d be starting completely from the ground up. That kind of challenge can feel intimidating, but hard work and hustle are the foundation of everything I’ve ever done.
When the pandemic hit, my business faced one of its biggest tests. I wasn’t approved for any of the small business loans that were being handed out, and the only things that kept my doors open were God, my community, my loyal clients, and relentless hustle. That season taught me that if I could survive that, I could rebuild anywhere — and that’s exactly what I’m doing here in Sanford.
I’ve only been here for a short time and no one knew my name at first. But I make it a point to talk to people, to network, and to let them get to know me beyond the chair. Every person who chooses to book with me — whether they come from a conversation, a recommendation, or just curiosity — is a blessing I don’t take lightly. And once you sit in my chair, I’m confident that my work will speak for itself. If you take a chance on me, you’ll quickly learn that once I’ve got you — I’ve got you.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about SheesDreamy Hair Studio?
SheesDreamy Hair Studio is more than just a salon — it’s an experience rooted in self-care, confidence, and connection. My mission has always been to create a space where women feel valued, beautiful, and seen the moment they sit in my chair. I specialize in healthy hair care, luxury extensions, silk press styling, and natural hair services — but more than anything, I’m known for the level of care, detail, and personalized attention I give to every client.
What sets SheesDreamy apart is the experience I curate. It’s not just about styling hair — it’s about building confidence, restoring self-esteem, and reminding every woman of the power she carries. I’m intentional about creating an atmosphere where my clients can breathe, talk, laugh, release, and leave not only looking their best but feeling their best too. My clients often say they come to me for the transformation but keep coming back because of the energy and care that surrounds the service.
I’m most proud of the fact that my brand was built from the ground up through word of mouth, loyalty, and genuine relationships. Over the years, I’ve had the honor of servicing women from all walks of life — from busy moms and CEOs to brides and travelers — and each appointment is a reminder that this is my purpose.
As I continue to grow SheesDreamy Hair Studio here in Florida, my goal is to create not just a salon but a community — one where women feel inspired, celebrated, and absolutely dreamy when they walk out the door.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I believe that risk and growth go hand-in-hand. Every major step I’ve taken in my career has involved a leap of faith, and I’ve learned that the greatest rewards often come on the other side of fear. One of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken was leaving behind everything familiar — my home, my clientele, my reputation — to start over in a new state where no one knew my name.
It wasn’t just a move; it was a complete reset. I walked away from a successful business and community I had built for over a decade to rebuild from the ground up in Florida. That decision was terrifying because it meant letting go of security and starting fresh in a place where I had no client base and no guarantees. But I also knew that staying in my comfort zone would limit my growth, and I’ve never been one to settle.
To me, risk isn’t about being reckless — it’s about betting on yourself even when the outcome is uncertain. It’s about trusting your vision enough to step out of what’s safe and into what’s possible. That mindset is what continues to fuel me today. Every conversation I have, every new client I meet, and every opportunity I chase is a reminder that taking risks is how dreams are built — and I’m committed to chasing every single one.
