Today we’d like to introduce you to Sue Ellen Ruiz-Bonilla
Hi Sue Ellen , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From a young age, I knew I wanted to be in the medical field. My passion for helping others started when my grandmother broke her hip and became wheelchair-bound. At a young age, I learned how to bathe her, feed her, and manage her medications. Taking care of her made me realize the impact of compassionate care, and I knew then that I wanted to dedicate my career to helping others in healthcare.
After graduating high school, I immediately enrolled in a medical assisting and X-ray tech program. During my internship at a primary care office, I became fascinated by the inner workings of a medical practice—I wanted to know how everything functioned. Once I completed my program, I started as a front desk receptionist at a doctor’s office, but I was eager to learn more. I constantly asked questions and took every opportunity to train in different roles.
That drive led me to another primary care office, where I took on multiple roles—front desk, medical assistant, authorization and referral coordinator, insurance verification specialist—you name it, I did it. Being in such a hands-on role helped me develop a deep understanding of the operations side of healthcare. I carried this hunger for knowledge into every job I took, constantly absorbing new skills and improving processes.
In my 20s, I found myself working at a radiology center, where I met Kimberley a woman who would change the course of my career. She saw my potential and pulled me under her wing. Kimberley, the compliance officer for a multi-location medical corporation, taught me the complexities of medical compliance, management, and leadership. She was fearless, respected (and sometimes disliked), but she never let that stop her from doing what was right. She inspired me to be bold, confident, and relentless in my pursuit of excellence.
Because of what I learned from her, I was able to step into an administrator role for multiple medical clinics. I continued climbing the ladder, eventually managing several clinics at once. But then, life changed—I found out I was pregnant.
The Birth of StrategiX Med Solutions
Becoming a mother shifted my priorities. I still loved the medical field, but I wanted a better work-life balance. I spent countless hours discussing ideas with my husband and family, trying to figure out how I could continue helping providers without being tied to a clinic full-time.
Then one day, my husband said, “If only someone would pay you for all the knowledge you have.” That one sentence sparked everything.
I realized that my experience in medical administration, billing, credentialing, and practice management was incredibly valuable. Providers were overwhelmed with the business side of healthcare, and I had the skills to help them streamline operations so they could focus on patient care.
That’s how StrategiX Med Solutions was born—a professional medical management company dedicated to helping providers with everything from scheduling and billing to launching and optimizing their medical practices.
Today, I help providers reduce administrative burdens, improve efficiency, and grow their practices. Whether it’s handling credentialing, creating strategies for new medical concepts, or managing day-to-day operations, my mission remains the same: to empower healthcare providers so they can focus on what truly matters—caring for patients.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not—anything worth having comes with challenges.
In my 20s, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, which brought serious health struggles. There were times when I was incredibly sick, and my anxiety was through the roof. But even then, I never stopped learning, asking questions, and pushing forward. I refused to let obstacles take away my drive to grow and impact lives in healthcare.
Even now, with 15+ years of experience, challenges still come up. There are moments of uncertainty, setbacks, and risks I have to take, hoping they pay off. Running a business means constantly making tough decisions—and the truth is, you never know if you made the right one until you see it play out.
But despite the struggles, I keep moving forward—because I believe in my mission, my skills, and the impact I can make. Every challenge is just another step toward growth.
As you know, we’re big fans of StrategiX Med Solutions. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

Let’s connect and take your practice to the next level!
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Finding the right mentor and network can be a game-changer for your career and business. Here’s what has worked for me:
Be Curious & Ask the Right Questions
From the start of my career, I always asked a lot of questions—not just about my job, but about how everything worked in a medical practice. That curiosity opened doors and helped me connect with people who were willing to teach me. Even now, I still ask lots of questions—especially the right ones—because learning never stops.
Build Genuine Relationships
Some of my biggest career breakthroughs came from organic relationships, like when I met Kimberley, who became a pivotal mentor for me. I didn’t seek her out as a mentor—I was lucky that the universe put the right people on my path. She saw my drive and took me under her wing. Be open to learning from those around you—sometimes, the best mentors are already in your network.
Put Yourself in the Right Rooms
Attend industry events, conferences, and networking groups. Being in the right spaces allows you to meet like-minded professionals who can offer guidance, share opportunities, and inspire growth.
Connect on LinkedIn & Social Media
I’ve found LinkedIn to be an incredible tool for networking in the healthcare and business space. Engage with industry leaders, join discussions, and don’t be afraid to reach out. A simple message like “I admire your work and would love to learn from your experience” can open doors!
Give Before You Ask
Mentorship is a two-way street. Offer value, support, and appreciation before expecting guidance. Whether it’s sharing insights, helping with a project, or simply being reliable, people are more likely to invest in you when they see your dedication and work ethic.
Final Thought
The best mentors and networks aren’t just about career advancement—they’re about growth, learning, and shared success. Stay curious, build relationships, and trust that the right people will cross your path at the right time.
