Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Miller
Hi Susan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Many years ago, I was in very poor health, I struggled every day with constant pain and stiffness, poor sleep, and other issues. Western medicine had failed me. After six years of listening to doctors, taking pharmaceuticals, and making no positive progress, I began looking for natural remedies. One day I happened upon a woman selling essential oils at a pop-up event. After a brief consultation, she applied a tension-relieving blend to my neck and shoulders and told me to continue my shopping and see how I felt in a few minutes. I walked away skeptical, but ever hopeful. I took about twenty steps, and as I went to cross the street and check for traffic, I realized I could turn my head more than I had been able to in years! I was absolutely amazed! I purchased a few of the lady’s roll-on blends to try out and I was thrilled that every one of them made a huge difference for me. I was so intrigued I ended up doing a three-year apprenticeship with her. As I learned all she could teach me, I fell deeper and deeper in love with essential oils.
Eventually, I decided to get a more formal education and can proudly say I am a Certified Aromatherapist. I’ve been working with essential oils now for twenty years and I’ve also learned that I am blessed with a gift for working with these powerful and transformative essences. And what a blessing – I get to help people on their journeys to health! Nothing feels better than having someone express that something I made took away their pain. I have been at the Winter Garden Farmers Market for nearly seventeen years. I’ve had the honor of helping entire families with their health challenges. I’ve helped babies when they had sniffles and watched them carry my blends with them as they went off to college. It’s an awesome community to be a part of.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. I love working with the oils, making new products, and doing research. But I seriously struggle with social media and computer-related tasks. Thankfully, my brilliant daughter, Megan, handles most of that for me. She was the impetus behind our latest rebranding: new logo, new labels and a redesigned website. She’s also my biggest cheerleader and I can honestly say that without her assistance and encouragement, I would not be where I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business was founded on the principle of the Ghandhi quote, “Be the change you wish to see in this world.” I believe our beautiful planet is abundantly filled with everything we need to achieve and maintain our health. With the proper knowledge, this abundance can be a great source of healing.
I suppose I’m known for my patience and for listening to my clients, as they often thank me for doing so. That is an important skill when you are trying to determine the best course of action to help them. You must consider physical needs, but emotional and spiritual clues must be taken into consideration as well. Because I treat from a holistic standpoint, there are many aspects to consider in order to get results.
I offer an extensive selection of roll-ons for various conditions, for example, pain, anxiety, insomnia, and immune support. I have a varied selection of diffuser blends, natural perfumes, and skin care. I also make custom blends and intuitive blends.
I’m most proud of my skincare line. I was disappointed in the purity and quality of natural products I had used, even some very expensive ones. So about ten years ago, I began formulating my own products. I named the line Radiant Glow because that’s the result I wanted to achieve with my skincare. I often have people ask me what I use on my face because they say my skin “glows.” And then they are surprised when I tell them I’m nearly 58! Everyone who tries my skincare loves it, so I’m quite pleased it’s working for so many women – I even have some men who use it.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Oh, this could be a very long list. I’m sort of an information hoarder: books, apps, blogs. I’m also really into self-evolution. The more I heal and learn, the better healer I am for others. Lately, I’ve been doing lots of tapping (EFT) and I trust Brad Yates more than anyone. He has a YouTube channel, and I get great results with him. Affirmations are powerful, and you have to give credit to Louise Hay, she was such a beautiful soul. Yoga is a cornerstone of my health; I like Brett Larkin’s philosophies very much. And Erin Stutland combines exercise and affirmations, she’s great. I’m not that into podcasts, but I always make time for “Selfish and Soulful” on Spotify. Megan Levana talks about reclaiming your power and authenticity and connecting to your soul. It’s poignant, empowering, and sassy!
