Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Davis and Jenny Gallard.
Wendy and Jenny, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We are sisters in business and doing motherhood together! After feeling unfulfilled in our corporate jobs, we each decided to start our own businesses while supporting each other. I, Jenny, decided to get certified to teach birth classes because of my own traumatic experience with the birth of my 2nd son that left me feeling like I needed to do more and help educate women from the beginning of their pregnancy so they can truly feel empowered in their birth. And Wendy has always had a passion for holistic health and after suffering with postpartum depression after her son’s birth, she decided to create products to support women in the 4th trimester.
After a light bulb moment, we realized we were both supporting the same audience(just at different stages) and so we decided to join forces and support women from pregnancy through motherhood. And created Pure Motherhood Co, a one stop shop resource for education, empowerment and products for moms and moms to be.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely some struggles along the way and still to this day, since we have been doing this together for a year and a half, we still are learning and navigating through entrepreneurship. We are still learning as we grow and shifting as needed.
One of the things we continue to work on is how to do business as sisters. It’s been super fun but also a learning curve because we are so different. So we have been intentional about learning more about each other’s personality styles in business that way we can understand each other better and why we approach business the way we do. One of the best things is that because we are so different, our strengths and weaknesses complement each other so well. What’s funny is all our lives, we have always been passionate about different things and never in a million years did we think we would be in the same space and creating a business together.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Pure Motherhood was founded to provide the support, education and products, we wish we could have had in our pregnancy, birth and postpartum journeys. We want to change and redefine the way birth and preparing for birth and motherhood is viewed in our society. It has a negative connotation and there really is no preparation involved. We are taught that you don’t need to prepare for birth because birth is so unpredictable but then 1/3 women end up with a traumatic birth experience, we are taught that there is no way to prepare for postpartum and you just have to “see how it goes” but then 1/7 women are suffering from postpartum depression and we are taught that your “motherly instincts” will kick in when you become a mom but what if they don’t? And we are taught that if you want a more holistic approach to birth and motherhood, you can’t make mistakes.
Our mission is to redefine what “natural” motherhood means by creating a safe, judgment-free space and providing products and education to help moms who want to birth and raise their children as naturally as they can. We do this by providing online self-paced courses, digital educational downloads, group birth/postpartum coaching and support and pregnancy/ birth and postpartum product kits made with all-natural ingredients.
We believe that helping one mom creates a ripple effect from generations to come.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up with a single mom, we learned to be very resilient at a young age, we learned how strong women are sometimes, to a detriment. Wendy and I were very opposite children which is why we are shocked to be in business together. Wendy is the free-spirited, go with the flow sister and Jenny is the level-headed, structured sister and thats probably why we work so well together.
