Today we’d like to introduce you to Wynn Newingham.
Wynn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My passion for marketing began in childhood. In second grade, I used my grandparents’ typewriter and copier to create ads and newspapers that I proudly passed out to my family. By seventh grade, I was convinced I would write jingles for a living because I loved the way commercials could capture attention and tell a story in just a few seconds. That early enthusiasm grew into a more focused path when I went to college, where I studied public relations, and later earned my MBA.
My professional career took me through tourism, healthcare, and local government and economic development. Each of these industries came with its own language, challenges, and marketing complexities. Those experiences gave me an eclectic background, broadened my perspective, and trained me to be adaptive. At the heart of every role, I found myself solving problems and telling stories that connected people to a brand or mission.
Over time, I realized that while I loved the work, the corporate setting was limiting. I often felt like I was expected to be everything to everyone, and although I enjoyed serving in that way, I knew it was not sustainable long-term. When I found myself happily married and raising my third child, I recognized the need for a different path. I wanted the space to pursue new ideas and create strategies that allowed businesses to grow authentically.
That realization became the foundation for Tustle Marketing. Today, I bring together all the lessons and skills I have learned along the way, such as strategy, communications, digital and social media, advertising, and analytics. However, I get to now use them to help businesses show up with confidence and clarity. My work is not just about creating campaigns or following up on the latest marketing trend; it is about helping people connect their vision to real results.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Has it been a smooth road? I do not think anything worth doing is ever completely smooth, and my journey has been no exception. I am now heading into my sixth year as a business owner, but the beginning was anything but easy. Starting a business was never my dream—I simply wanted to do marketing. It was with the encouragement of my husband, who persisted that I give it a try, that I eventually took the leap. I spent three months between corporate jobs asking myself what I was going to do with my life. I wanted to be home more. I wanted to turn off work more. But, I didn’t know what that actually looked like because all I really knew in starting a career was to grind. But to start my own business? Off the table. Be at home more? I knew I was not meant to be a stay-at-home mom, but I also knew I was not built for a sixty-hour workweek. Eventually, I pulled myself together and decided to dive in (and finally given in to my husband’s idea).
I launched my business at the start of COVID-19. That timing brought its own set of challenges, but it also created unexpected opportunity. Businesses everywhere were forced to rethink how they approached marketing, and I was able to step in and help. That season allowed me to build my reputation quickly and make an impact at a time when it was most needed.
A couple of years later, I faced another bump in the road. The reality of being a business owner set in. You know, processing payments, running a team, setting the vision, managing finances, handling insurance, making every decision…. One day I found myself missing the steadiness of a corporate paycheck and the simplicity of letting someone else handle those details. I briefly chased what felt like a shiny object, exploring a return to corporate life. But it did not take long for me to realize I had built something of my own, and I was not ready to walk away from it. That moment reignited my commitment to my business and to the work I truly love. That was around 2022, and I haven’t looked back (or at the shiny object) and Tustle has never been better because of it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Tustle Marketing is built on the idea that marketing should not feel like a hassle. Owning a business is hard. Your marketing shouldn’t be even harder. We exist to make it easier for businesses and organizations to show up authentically and consistently in their marketing, both online and in their communities.
We specialize in three key areas: consulting, implementation, and training. That means we not only create and manage marketing strategies for our clients, but we also equip them with the tools and knowledge to carry it forward. Some of our clients prefer us to handle everything behind the scenes, while others want to learn how to do it themselves. We are flexible because every business has different needs. And being a problem solver, I love to help solve their (marketing) problems.
What sets Tustle apart is the way we approach marketing. We are not just focused on posting content or running ads. We dig into the “why” behind a business and connect that purpose to strategy. Our goal is to take what often feels overwhelming and break it down into simple, actionable steps. Whether it is developing a brand story, building a website, managing social media, or training a team, we bring clarity and confidence to the process.
Brand-wise, I am most proud of the reputation we have built as a trusted partner. Many of our clients come to us feeling frustrated or stuck, and it is rewarding to see them leave empowered, excited, and clear about their next steps.
At the end of the day, I want readers to know that Tustle is more than a marketing agency. We are a collaborator, a teacher, and a strategist. We help you connect the dots between your vision and your results, and we make the process simple, approachable, and even fun.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I do not believe in luck, but I do believe in the Lord, and I am grateful for the favor He has shown me throughout my journey. The truth is, by all accounts, I should not even be here. I struggled in school, I became a teen mom, I’ve been a single mom (and I can keep going…).
But the Lord is good and faithful, and He deserves all the credit for where I am today. Being a business owner was never part of my plan. It was not something I dreamed about, pursued, or even considered. Yet, here I am six years later, still standing, still growing, and still getting to do the work I love. I see that as nothing short of His hand guiding me, and I do not take it for granted.
