Hidden Gems: Meet Zoe Grant and Madeleine Biache of DBD Lifestyles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zoe Grant and Madeleine Biache

Hi Zoe and Madeleine, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We previously owned a consulting company in a different field together. When Zoe and her husband built their home in Maine in 2021 it was the perfect opportunity to delve deeper into the world of interior design and unlock a mutual passion for creating beautiful interiors. We are both crafty and have always enjoyed putting together spaces but had never had the chance to act on this on a bigger scale until then.
The home was featured in Maine Home and Design magazine and a reader reached out about designing her home. After working with our first client we realized that we would love to officially pivot our business and the rest has been a fun roller coaster.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting any business is always a challenge and changing fields is an added layer. We have been so fortunate to have so much fun working together and to have such great clients and vendor partners. One fun challenge we’ve had is learning the ropes of social media and showcasing our work. It’s been a fun learning experience to shoot content and to partner with brands that we love.

Interior design is so visual that learning video and photo editing has been crucial. We look back at some of our older content and are amazed at how far we’ve come.

On the design side we have learned so much about the technical elements of construction and the behind the scenes of making a space come to life.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are an interior design firm specializing in residential and short term rental design. We are client first and take a collaborative approach to design. Our style could best be described as “whimsical luxury” using color, themes and patterns to draw through lines through the room or home. We work within a variety of budgets and often shop resale to find special and unique pieces like art, furniture and one of kind decor.

We love to work with independent artists and creators to make truly unique spaces. In our rental properties we take special care to make each and every home an experience for the guests. Often this means fun themes inspired by the destination. No two of our projects are the same and it really sets them apart from other options on the market.

The thing we are most proud of is that we have built a community of other like minded creatives and brands through social media that help us bring our visions to life. We wouldn’t be where we are without their support. It truly takes a (tastefully decorated) village.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of our favorite mutual memories is meeting at summer camp in high school. Madeleine grew up in New Jersey and Zoe in Maine so it was really a random chance that we met at camp halfway around the world in Spain. We hit it off immediately and have had so many adventures since. Starting and running a business together 10 years later was definitely an unexpected twist.
