Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana Lewis.
Hi Briana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Briana Lewis. I am a licensed Mental Health Therapist in the state of Florida. I was born and raised in Orlando, FL. I graduated from Dr. Phillips high school and went on to attend Florida A&M University for my bachelor’s degree in Clinical Social work. I then went on to attend The University of Central Florida, where I received my master’s in clinical social work. Growing up, my dream was to become a veterinarian.
However, as I started my collegiate career, I began to tap into my passion for helping others. Throughout my life, I was always the “go-to” person that my friends would Confide in and entrust their deepest struggles. I found so much gratitude and appreciation for helping others overcome their challenges. During that era, particularly within the African American community, the struggles of Mental Health weren’t an acknowledged concept. So, unfortunately, common struggles such as trauma, depression and anxiety were dismissed. Having humble beginnings and growing up In a single parent household, I knew that I wanted to change the perception of mental health for those who looked like me. I was able to grasp the importance of healing from normalized racial and socioeconomic trauma. Once I was able to nurture my passion, I pursued my clinical social work license, where I currently serve as a mental health Therapist within the same community that made me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! Earlier in my career, I struggled with finding my place within the intimidating field of Mental Health. I struggled with imposters syndrome and feeling like I didn’t belong. I’ve dealt with being personally triggered from working with clients whose struggles are identical to mine. And most recently, I’ve struggled with anxiety. The road hasn’t been easy but the journey has been beautiful!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve created a private practice called, Inspired Living Counseling & Consulting that has allowed me to build a tribe of licensed mental health professionals that cater to specific needs, to better serve our community. We provide individualized therapy and counseling services to adults and youth. We also accept several insurances, such as Cigna, Humana, and United Healthcare. We partner with local non-profit organizations where we make mental health services accessible by providing pro-bono mental health counseling. What sets us apart are our Orlando roots. Our mental health services have been handpicked and cultivated to ensure the specific Mental Health needs of Orlando are met.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Within the next ten years, I plan to expand my practice to other cities within the state of Florida to make mental health services accessible for other communities in need.
