Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassie Tucker.
Hi Cassie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was younger, I was always obsessed with Disney. I knew one day, I wanted to move to Orlando and work at Disney World, making magic for guests from all over the world. That’s exactly what I did. When I was in college (and after applying three times), I finally landed an internship with the Walt Disney Company. At this time, I was attending school for Public Relations at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. A few weeks after receiving confirmation that I was accepted into Disney’s program, I left Tampa and moved into an apartment in Orlando. The ultimate goal was to work my way up into a marketing/PR role with Disney, but that’s certainly not where I started. I was tasked with working in the parks, face-to-face with guests, helping them pick out merchandise to take home with them. This role was crucial and pivotal in my career. I learned how to create memory-making experience for people, how to provide excellent services and how to SELL.
At the end of my internship with Disney, I attempted to get a professional marketing role with the company, but I was not successful. I knew there was something else out there for me, so I headed back to Tampa, graduated and worked for two large restaurant groups, refining my marketing, PR, social media and event planning skills. Fast forward a few years later and I was offered a job at a social media agency in NYC. I took it and spent over a year in the Big Apple, learning what it was like to work for an agency (vs. In-house, which was all I had known). At the end of my time in NYC, I started to feel like there was something bigger out there for me. I eventually moved back to Tampa for some time after accepting a marketing director role for a previous restaurant group that I had worked for. This role was huge for me. I managed seven brands and a team of 4. This role was scary for me but was pushing me closer and closer to my new goal: to own a business of my own. After several months with the company, it was time. I quit my 9-5 and began building my personal social media agency. I wanted to build a better agency – dedicated to making magic for my clients and their customers, just like I did at Disney. I wanted to craft my strategies around Storytelling, which I learned was the #1 way to reel consumers in and SELL products. Although I didn’t get my dream of working long-term for the Walt Disney Company, that internship that I did continues to guide me daily in building my business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been an easy road. I applied to over 50 Disney jobs after my internship with the company and was denied all of them. I knew it was a sign that there was something different out there for me. As I’ve grown my business throughout COVID-19, I’ve struggled with losing a LOT of business, but we’ve had to get creative with selling and learning how to open new streams of income. I think COVID-19 has been a huge learning lesson for us and has pushed us to get out of our comfort zone.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about CAMM Media?
I started a business with my now-husband during COVID-19 called CAMM Media. We’re an “anti-agency” – We don’t just want our clients to be another number to us. We want to take the time to build relationships with them and really get to know how to help them reach their business goals. We’ve taken key customer service and “magic making” principles I’ve learned from the hospitality industry and applied them to our business and the content we create for our clients. At CAMM Media, we specialize in social media strategy, photography, videography, drone work and general marketing/PR. What am I most proud of? That I’ve built a sustainable business in the midst of the pandemic. We’ve hit some incredible business goals during a very financially-trying time. We have secured large brands and developed very great work with just a two-person team. We take a different approach to the content we create for our clients. To us, it’s not advertising, it’s storytelling and adding value which works in selling products. That’s at the forefront of our business.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I’ve learned that a brand selling to people constantly DOESN’T work. When you adjust your focus from advertising to simply adding value, you’d be surprised at the amount of sales that follow.
