Hi Kerri-Joe, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
This may sound cliché but I knew I wanted to make a difference. I wasn’t happy in my life; I couldn’t even look myself in the mirror. Every time I would look myself in the mirror, I would say, “how ugly I was.” What I didn’t realize it was postpartum depression. But it wasn’t just postpartum for the last two years I had postpartum depression for the last seven years and didn’t even realize it. But when I had my daughter, it just went out of control I couldn’t even look myself in the mirror. I couldn’t even be a good wife or be a good mother because of what I was going through.
The first 12 weeks of my daughter’s life was difficult. As soon as we got all of her issues taken care of it was literally time for me to go back to work. Returning back to work, I had two new bosses that were new to the company. I had a property that just couldn’t get it together. I knew I wanted to do something different I just couldn’t figure it out. So the industry that I am currently in is Non-Invasive Body Contouring. I had this done about five years ago and I enjoy the process. So when I stumbled across it again, I knew I needed to look into this and see what I can do and see if this can actually be a business for me. So one day, I searched and searched and searched all day long and finally found a class that I could take while I was working a 9 to 5. I finally got my certification. Once I got my certification and spoke to my instructor, it was like a lightbulb went off. My husband, my biggest fan and my best friend, who is also my biggest fan, pushed me through this every single day they made sure every step was taken care of and it just lit a flame. So stepping out on faith once I had all my equipment and once I had everything that I need, I stepped out on faith found a location and signed a lease, funny right? I’m the type of person that needs to have it all their ducks in the row before a lease is signed, but in this case, I knew I had to take the leap. When I serviced my third client, she got off the bed her face turned red she started crying just because of her results. At that very moment, I knew this was what I needed to do. I needed to help women and men of all walks of life feel better about themselves then if it’s just an hour experience, I would make it the best hour of their week.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a very steady ride. Because of my business background, there are things I established out the gate. It is a real faith walk. My trust in God has gotten much stronger He has been so faithful. The biggest struggle I have had was not knowing the season of Body Contouring. What I mean is, between the months of November and February, I didn’t expect to be in a financial drought. In my previous career, I was making over 65,000/year. And to experience, a drought that I didn’t see coming was extremely scary. I’m just grateful, I learned from my mistakes and I know what I need to do better for the future.

What I am most proud of is, the different branches of Kontour Me. Currently Kontour Me offers four different branches of business. We have Kontour Me, which handles the body contouring side. We have Kontour Your Vision, where we do an Annual Vision board brunch. Our first brunch back in January was sold out and a complete success. Our third branch is The Kontour Academy where I teach aspiring and up-and-coming trainees in the art of body sculpting. I train them to start their own business and walk in their path. Lastly, for now The Kontour Experience, which a retreat were 25 to 30 women-only travel together and enjoy and out-of-this-world experience. An opportunity to network, relax, decompress, and party with other like-minded women all over the country. Our first “Girls Night In” will in late May of 2021. This is what sets me apart from others. I want to empower not only women physically but mentally and emotionally. What matters most to you? Why?
The first question I ask in my class is, “Why are you doing this?” I can securely answer this. I care the most about my family. My husband, Calvin. Our Three Children, Elijah (14), Calvin II (8), and Laila Pearl (2). My mother and my brother. That’s who I do this for. I want to provide a life for my children I dreamed of. But at the same time, having my own business offers me the time to be home with them. So not only am I looking towards the future, I am cherishing the present and being involved in every area of their lives. Being a better wife for my husband, who deserves the world. And for my mom, I want to give her to the world. She sacrificed so much much for my brother and I. Just to be able to give a fraction back to her would be amazing.
