Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Bloom.
Hi Aaron, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story begins with a deep belief that healthcare should be compassionate, accessible, and centered on the whole person, not just their diagnosis code. Before DocMJ, I spent years practicing law and working in healthcare operations. I witnessed how difficult it was for people to get the care they truly needed, especially when that care involved something misunderstood or controversial, like medical cannabis.
When Florida legalized medical marijuana in 2016, I saw both a challenge and an opportunity. The challenge was that there was no established model for how to do this the right way, how to bring legitimacy, professionalism, and medical integrity to a new kind of healthcare. The opportunity was to build something that could truly help people who had run out of options.
DocMJ was launched with a simple but powerful goal: to make medical marijuana care accessible, affordable, and rooted in genuine compassion. We started small, with a few physicians and a belief that patients deserved to be treated with dignity and understanding. Over time, DocMJ grew into one of the largest and most respected medical cannabis physician practices in the country, serving hundreds of thousands of patients across multiple states.
Along this journey, I’ve learned a tremendous amount about the science of the endocannabinoid system, the importance of patient advocacy, and the business challenges of pioneering a new branch of medicine. I wanted to share those lessons, so I wrote a book – DocMJ: The Business of Compassionate Cannabis Care. It tells the story of how DocMJ.com was built, the values that drive our work, and why compassion must remain at the heart of everything we do.
Ultimately, my story, and DocMJ’s, is about people. It’s about helping patients regain control of their health, educating communities, and leading with empathy in an evolving and often misunderstood field.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most meaningful journeys, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. Building DocMJ meant entering a brand-new medical space that was often misunderstood and, at times, met with resistance. Early on, we faced skepticism, from both within the medical community and from policymakers, about the legitimacy of medical marijuana as a form of treatment. It took a lot of education, persistence, and patient success stories to prove that our focus was, and always would be, on patient well-being and sound medical care.
There were also practical challenges. Every state has its own complex regulatory structure, and the rules surrounding marijuana change constantly. We had to build systems that could adapt to shifting laws while maintaining the highest standards of medical ethics and patient privacy. Managing that level of compliance across multiple states was difficult, but it forced us to become stronger, more disciplined, and more transparent as an organization.
On a personal level, one of the hardest parts has been balancing growth with compassion, making sure that as we scale, we never lose sight of the individual patient sitting in front of a physician. That commitment has guided every decision we’ve made.
I share many of these lessons and experiences in my book, DocMJ: The Business of Compassionate Cannabis Care, which tells the story of what it takes to build a medical practice in a field defined by both stigma and hope. The road hasn’t been smooth, but it’s been incredibly meaningful.
As you know, we’re big fans of DocMJ. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
DocMJ is a medical practice focused entirely on helping patients access the benefits of medical marijuana safely, legally, and with the guidance of experienced physicians. We believe that medical marijuana is a legitimate, science-backed treatment option that can improve quality of life for people dealing with chronic pain, anxiety, PTSD, insomnia and many other conditions.
Our mission is simple: to make compassionate care accessible to everyone who can benefit from it. We do that by providing patients with affordable evaluations, education, and support through a network of licensed physicians who specialize in understanding both the science and the human side of care.
What sets DocMJ apart is the professionalism we bring to an industry that hasn’t always been taken seriously. From the beginning, we’ve worked to remove the stigma and confusion surrounding medical marijuana. We’ve built a patient experience that feels like real healthcare, ethical, data-driven, and centered on trust. Every patient interaction is guided by compassion and respect, and our team takes pride in creating a supportive environment where people feel heard and understood.
We’re also proud to have grown responsibly. DocMJ now serves patients in multiple states, and we continue to lead with integrity, medical quality, and education. Brand-wise, I’m most proud that patients see DocMJ as credible and caring—a place where they can get answers, relief, and hope.
Ultimately, I want readers to know that DocMJ exists to help people live better lives. Whether someone is exploring medical marijuana for the first time or has been a patient for years, our goal is to make the process simple, supportive, and grounded in compassion.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I’d like readers to know that medical marijuana is not just about a new kind of medicine. It represents a new way of thinking about health and healing. Every day, we see patients who come to us after years of struggling with pain, anxiety, or other chronic conditions, and we get to witness the moment they start to feel hope again. That is what drives me and our entire team.
We are living in a time when more people are open to exploring plant-based and integrative approaches to care, and I believe that is a positive change. My hope is that DocMJ continues to help lead that progress by providing patients with real relief, educating communities, and always leading with compassion and professionalism.
I share much of this perspective in my book, DocMJ: The Business of Compassionate Cannabis Care, which tells the story of how DocMJ was built and the lessons I have learned along the way. More than anything, I want readers to know that our work is about people, not products. Every patient matters, and we are honored to help them take the next step toward better health.
