Today we’d like to introduce you to Aiesha Mullings.
Aiesha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story began in Jamaica, and I moved to Philadelphia as a child. As an immigrant, I knew that I had to utilize the advantages that I was given. There was a lot of pressure to do something traditional like nursing or teaching but I knew that avenue wasn’t for me. I’ve always been the creative type and loved drawing and designing as a kid, so I knew that was where I belonged. I went against tradition and majored in architecture when I went to the University of Arkansas. After college, I had a difficult time getting internships or jobs, so I took a detour and started my family and opened my own firm in 2019 in Georgia. I’ve found that my background in architecture sets me apart as an interior designer.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The process wasn’t smooth. I would say it is time consuming and tough. This field is something that you must work hard at and want. Client fit is important. There are times that I want to help everyone, but not every job is right for my company.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Aiesha Mullings Design Studio is an interior design studio serving mainly Orange County, Lake County, and central Florida but I also do projects in other parts of the country. I opened my business in Loganville and relocated here at the beginning of 2021. I specialize in residential and small commercial design and do renovations, interior design as well as some architecture work. I have worked on restaurants, Rehab properties, new builds, and more.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Several people play an integral part in my business life now. Firstly, I am grateful for the support of my husband and children. They give me the time to take care of business and are my cheerleaders. My mom and siblings have always believed in me and never want me to give up on my dreams. The rest of my family, especially my cousins. My grandma had 13 kids and most of them had four or more children. There are a lot of us. We all tend to keep each other on track and support each other 100 percent.
