Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandria Rouse.
Hi Alexandria , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Sanford, Florida, raised by a single mom and a big, faith-filled, no-nonsense family. Our rhythm was simple: church, school, repeat and I loved it. I was that kid who chased the honor roll and felt a rush every time my name appeared on the list. Friends and cousins came to me for perspective and encouragement; being the listener felt natural. Still, I assumed my path led to law. Everything shifted with my first job at the Sanford Boys & Girls Club. I wasn’t just clocking in; I was witnessing how attention, consistency, and care could change the trajectory of a young person’s day, and sometimes their life. At the University of South Florida (Go Bulls!), I worked at the YMCA and felt that same tug. Accounting was rough, but the real signal was clear: my calling was to build futures with people, not cases.
A role in a group home for youth in foster care made it undeniable. The legal system wasn’t where I’d make my impact, social work was. After graduating from USF, I became a Child Protective Investigator, meeting families at their hardest moments on doorsteps across Florida. The work was meaningful and intense. I went back to school for my MSW, then moved into medical social work to help patients navigate the hospital system, again during the hardest moments of their lives, right as the world shifted under our feet during COVID.
I loved the work, but I wanted to build something that reflected my values: a space where people don’t have to code-switch, sound polished or present an outline of their pain to “earn” support. “I don’t even know where to start” would be a perfectly valid starting point. I earned my clinical license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and opened a private practice, Next Generation Empowerment Center.
Today, I lead a hospital team of Care Managers full-time while growing my practice. My story is equal parts discipline, faith, and southern structure, mixed with intuition and the courage to pivot. The honor-roll kid in me still cares about achievement, but my metric has changed. Success now looks like this: Are people leaving our work together more themselves than when they walked in? For me, the answer is finally yes.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not even close, and that’s the beautiful part. I logged my clinical hours in the chaos of COVID, balancing changing protocols with very real human grief. I’ve stayed in roles that weren’t healthy while I figured out the next right move. I’ve battled self-doubt, hit seasons of burnout, and had days when quitting sounded easier than continuing.
I also did what I ask my clients to do: I got help. I sat in my own therapist’s chair, learned new boundaries, and rebuilt habits when motivation ran thin. Those detours taught me stamina, humility, and discernment. They also sharpened my commitment to create workspaces and a practice where well-being isn’t a footnote; it’s the foundation.
As you know, we’re big fans of Next Generation Empowerment Center . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m the owner of a private practice offering therapy and life coaching with a simple invitation: come as you are. I provide virtual therapy across the state of Florida (currently available through Rula and Headway, and I also accept private-pay clients). I work with kids, teens, and young adults and draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness-based approaches. What sets my practice apart is the through-line of my career—child welfare, nonprofit leadership, and medical social work. I understand systems: how they can help, how they can harm, and how to help people move through them with dignity. Sessions are culturally responsive and practical; we focus on skills you can use the same day—language for hard conversations, tools to regulate stress, and plans that respect your real life.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that clients don’t have to perform to be cared for. No code-switching. No perfect script. Just an honest space to get unstuck, heal, and grow. If you’re in Florida and looking for a therapist—or you’re seeking coaching support—my practice is designed to meet you where you are and walk with you toward where you want to be
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
In my journey towards success, I owe my deepest gratitude to God, who has been my guiding force every step of the way. He’s not only the source of my drive but also blessed me with a loving mother who believed in me and instilled discipline in me from a young age. My best friend continuously uplifts me with her unwavering praise and encouragement. Additionally, I was blessed to see entrepreneurial spirit and hard work modeled for me inside of my home. I was fortunate to work under a few very supportive black woman leaders who lead by example and I am incredibly blessed with a large family who shows support and love. Together, these remarkable individuals have shaped my path and played a pivotal role in my achievements.
