Inspiring Conversations with Aniyah Ryals of Pawfresh Foodie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aniyah Ryals

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Aniyah Ryals, and at just 20 years old, I am the proud founder of Pawfresh Foodie, a business I started at 18, based out of Clermont, Florida. This journey was born from a deeply personal story about my beloved childhood dog, Sophie Ryals—a 13-year-old Shih Tzu who has been my companion since I was 7 years old. Sophie’s health struggles inspired me to create a solution not just for her but for countless other pets in need of nutritious, high-quality food.

In early 2022, Sophie was diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), a painful condition that left her paralyzed in her front legs. Within 24 hours of learning about her condition, my family and I had to make a heart-wrenching decision: proceed with an emergency surgery that came with no guarantees. My parents stepped up to cover the nearly $10,000 medical expenses, including an MRI and surgery. After three days in the hospital, Sophie’s recovery began—a long process requiring patience and hope.

Initially, Sophie was administered a wet dog food in a can called Purina Pro Plan, which she ate without issue for about six months. But suddenly, she stopped eating it altogether. Being a concerned pet owner, I tried switching her to a healthier alternative and discovered The Farmer’s Dog. Their sample box, which came with a 50% discount, was a hit with Sophie. She loved the food, and I felt confident in its quality. However, as much as I appreciated the initial offer, the cost of continuing the subscription quickly became unmanageable, especially for a small dog like Sophie. The price for her size was disproportionately high compared to other options, leaving me worried about affordability and sustainability.

Desperate for a solution, I decided to take matters into my own hands. After extensive research, I created a homemade, organic recipe using ingredients like beef, turkey, nutritious vegetables, and multivitamins. The results were immediate—Sophie’s energy improved, her digestion normalized, and she seemed healthier overall. Seeing the dramatic transformation in her sparked an idea: why not share this solution with others?
My mother encouraged me to start spreading the word. One of our first volunteered partnerships was with our neighbors, Da-Ruba Doodles, a reputable group of experienced breeders. They are known for their Quality Golden Doodle Breeding. After trying Pawfresh Foodie and giving samples to their dogs and puppies, Da-Ruba Doodles were appreciative to know they were able to improve their puppies’ nutrition, which enabled them to grow healthy with minimal nutritional risks. Additionally, they saw the instant improvement in how Pawfresh Foodie benefited their puppies from the nutrition but also proved that good food does matter for a growing breed.

From there, Pawfresh Foodie grew steadily. We began attending local farmers’ markets and pet events to connect with pet owners and share our story. One of our key goals has been to make clean, organic dog food affordable and accessible for all pet owners. A realization that drives our mission is that unfortunately, most dog food on the market today contributes to health risks due to its list of questionable ingredients. Today, this knowledge pushes us to remain committed to our mission of providing pets with clean, nutritious meals – free from unnecessary additives, hormones, GMOs, and preservatives. With just 10 simple ingredients, our recipes are crafted with love to help pets live long, healthy, vibrant lives.

For me and my family, this journey is personal. As Sophie enters her golden years, I’m reminded every day of the importance of proper nutrition in a pet’s life. Pawfresh Foodie is not just a business—it’s a promise to pet owners everywhere that their beloved pets deserve the very best.

We’ve been humbled and inspired by the countless stories of how Pawfresh Foodie has transformed dogs’ lives. As we continue to grow, we remain dedicated to improving the well-being of all pets one meal at a time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to owning a business has certainly not been smooth. Starting and growing a business comes with countless obstacles, and I must admit, there have been moments when the trials dimmed my light and tested my motivation. However, those challenges only fueled my determination to push harder and continue striving for success.

Pawfresh Foodie is a family-owned business, and together, we’ve all experienced the struggles firsthand. Over the past two years, we’ve relied solely on our personal funds to keep the business running. This has been both a learning experience and a testament to our resilience. The effects of inflation have made this journey even more challenging, but we’ve remained committed to managing our profits wisely and reinvesting them back into the business. This disciplined approach has helped us grow steadily and sustainably.

As a first-time business owner, I’ve learned that challenges are inevitable, but having a strong foundation of support—from my family and those who believe in our mission—has been key to building a prosperous business. Results don’t come instantly, but patience and perseverance go a long way.

Every obstacle has taught us something valuable and brought us closer to our vision: providing affordable, clean, organic dog food to improve the lives of pets and their families.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My family has been my greatest source of support in building Pawfresh Foodie. As a young college student, starting a business on my own was challenging, especially without the resources to get it off the ground. My parents and brothers have played a pivotal role in making this business thrive. Their unwavering love, encouragement, and assistance have been invaluable, and I am deeply grateful for everything.
