Inspiring Conversations with Antuan Wright of Apex Coture Magazine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Antuan Wright.

Hi Antuan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got started with the magazine in early 2013 after I had just lost my successful carwash. I was brought on board by my cousin in Syracuse, NY to be the liaison and head over operations at a magazine when I knew nothing about running a magazine. I completely committed my life to build this thing but a certain set of circumstances lead my cousin to fall back (and I mean all the way back) leaving me with a choice to either take the wheel or let it crash. I took the wheel.

With consistency, being a man of my word, and building good relationships over a span of eight years, I was able to turn Apex Coture Magazine into a respected publication from Orlando to Toronto.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh no, not at all. This flight has been one of turbulence the entire time doing a lot of favors, taking L’s but staying on board the flight. All alone at that.

Financial struggles were the main thing so my character and skills had to lead the way. It’s hard to get people to take you seriously these days without a budget but I’m proof that if you stay the course, you will reap the fruits of your labor.

Another struggle was and still is the absolute lack of support from friends and family. ZERO support. But the people who watched me build from the ground up are showing up to show out with an appreciation for my years of contributions to the culture.

We’ve been impressed with Apex Coture Magazine, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Apex Coture Magazine is an Urban Variety Publication designed as a platform for Black entrepreneurs to have a place where they can shine in whatever their field of work may be. If you are a professional or are serious about your products or services, we’re here to build with you.

We’re the publication that made the average hard-working person with a vision shine like a celebrity until celebrities took notice and started to support my brand. Thus where I am now being elevated to a higher position to do more.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
It’s hard to say where I see this industry going as I differ from those in it because the way I learned the game was by teaching myself through experiences and mistakes. I see my brand expanding beyond being Florida-based thus having something to pass down for my children to build generational wealth, no matter where they take this weird industry, lol.
