Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashunta Jolly.
Hi Ashunta, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
You know the old saying, you have to learn to crawl before you walk? That saying doesn’t apply to my story and let me tell you why. My name is Ashunta (A- shawn-tee) Jolly and I know your thinking the pronunciation doesn’t match the spelling but we can thank my beautiful grandmother for that blessing. At the early age of seven, I was in the kitchen learning how to cook an entire soul food Sunday thanksgiving meal from scratch. My stepfather knew his way around the kitchen like nobody’s business! So naturally, I was like a moth to a flame when it came to the art of cooking. My mother couldn’t cook savory dishes without a heavy hand of salt so we left her to the desserts! After graduating Highschool, I enlisted in the United States Army and got orders for Schofield Barracks Hawaii. I was able to travel, pursue higher education at no cost and protect and serve my country at the same time. Life was headed in all the directions I had wished for. My unit received orders to Afghanistan and it became a deployment that I never knew would change the rest of my life. On my first experience outside the wire, the armored vehicle I was in was hit by a vehicle borne improvised explosive device (VBEID). After the explosion everyone was fine physically but no one talks about the unseen problems that come with a traumatic experience. This event brought about a lot of anxiety, sleep issues, alcoholism, and then liver problems due to the coping mechanisms. Even though it all, I wouldn’t rewrite a thing from that day because it sparked my interest down a path of self-healing. Western medicine doctors prescribed pills to me any chance they could but I’ve never been someone that liked to take unnatural medicine.
A few years later, I was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and found myself at an all-natural juice bar in San Antonio on a four day weekend. It was me and my best friend’s first time trying out a one day juice detox. The detox was mentally challenging rather than physically. But let me tell you, I got the best sleep of my life after just one day of detoxing. After that day, I knew I couldn’t revert back at my old lifestyle. I transitioned to a vegetarian, then worked my way up to becoming vegan and two years later started living an alkaline lifestyle. I truly felt I was at my optimum level of health after learning and applying the knowledge I gained from Dr. Sebi to my own life. I spent so much time in the kitchen learning and experimenting with fruits and vegetables that I had never heard of growing up. I detoxed my body with fresh juice, herbal teas and water over a period of days. I removed all alcohol from my diet and reversed my anxiety, sleep and liver issues through the power of detoxing and lifestyle changes. From there, I cultivated Jolly Juice LLC with the main mission of teaching my community that true health starts in the kitchen with the herbs and foods you eat.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life will always find ways to throw you a challenge or two but it’s about developing the psychological fortitude to keep moving forward. Honestly, the biggest obstacle was myself. When I exited the military in 2019, I put my business on pause while working for the Department of Veteran Affairs and returning to school full time to pursue a degree in Alternative Medicine from Everglades University. I was scared out of my mind that I would be extremely overwhelmed adding my business into my already busy schedule. So I allowed my own negative thoughts to stifle my company’s growth.
As you know, we’re big fans of Jolly Juice LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
As the owner of Jolly Juice LLC my main mission is to help heal the community through educating, preparing alkaline juice detoxes and herbal remedies. Soon I will be providing services to help assist the community with grocery shopping to make things easier when choosing to transition to a healthier lifestyle. The community has also been asking for me to start preparing alkaline vegan meals and I believe I’m ready to open up that door here soon! I’m well known for flavorful juices that not only taste amazing but cleanse the body of toxins on a cellular level. Every ingredient listed in each of my juices comes from our divine creator and was put here to heal our bodies naturally. I would like people to understand that an alkaline diet does not mean you should consume everything listed to the right of neutral on the ph scale. There are a lot of things in this world that have a ph greater than seven that are labeled alkaline but should not be consumed if your goal is to reverse disease. Essentially, an alkaline diet is the African Biomineral Balance lifestyle. Which means your consuming foods and herbs from the land that we came from in order to maintain homeostasis within the body to help prevent and eradicate disease. I believe what sets me apart from others is my authentic individuality. Not one soul on this green earth can steal that from me and that’s extremely comforting. I’m most proud that my brand represents exactly who I am and also shows the importance of healing yourself first so that you can be of service to others in your community!
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I’ve learned the importance of discernment and doing what’s best for your personal well-being. Having the ability to choose a certain path is our God-given right. I’m blessed to be able to the serve people with an alternative option to building and maintaining immunity.
