Inspiring Conversations with Brandon Holder of WE LIKE TO MOVE IT MOVERS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Holder.

Hi Brandon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I was a problem child and teen. Spent a lot of my time bouncing around, living in hotels, hiding from law enforcement, getting high, and getting drunk. Spent my life in and out of jail getting in trouble and hanging with the wrong crowd. I was incarcerated in Philadelphia for over two years (Most recently) and when I was released, I promised myself that I would do better for my family. I had nothing. Not even clothing to wear or food to eat. I was working two jobs at restaurants serving and cooking about 75-80 hours per week. A customer came in one day and was happy with my service and offered me a job. IT was a great opportunity for way more money and benefits doing construction so, of course, I was happy to take him up on his offer. I worked in this field for years to come waking up at 2:00 am every single day and breathing in endless amounts of poison, and [performing dangerous tasks. During this career choice, I had poked out my eye, permanently partially damaging my vision, broke bones, and scarred myself up. I was still happy to be there because I had never had a real job with benefits and a decent income. For years I woke up before the sun was even close to rising and I went to sleep before the sun ever went down for the night. At some point, I realized I couldn’t do this forever, or id dies before I was even 40 years old. My family lived in Florida and joking around one day told me to move down to Florida. It wasn’t a serious conversation but I woke up one morning and decided to do it. I left my house, my girlfriend at the time, my belongings, my career, my friends, everything, and up and left. I moved to Florida in a last-minute decision and began opening my own company which took months to learn about (as I have never been to college or gone to school for business). I had no education and no clue how to legally open and run a business. So, I started from square 1 with $2000.00 in my bank account. Slowly but surely my business grew as I learned more and more. It began growing more and more rapidly. Now i can proudly say we run about 5 trucks with 10 guys and I’m very pleased. We continue to grow today and embark on new endeavors.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
NOT AT ALL. Having nowhere to live, no food, no money, no clothes. In and out of jail. Bad breakups. Confusion. Regret. I never knew what I was doing. I was a fuck up my entire life until recent years. Even now it is a struggle, But now it’s a positive struggle. I’m happy to struggle in learning.
