Inspiring Conversations with Danielle Turner, LCSW of Inner You Clinical Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Turner, LCSW.

Hi Danielle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am Danielle Turner, therapist, bestselling author and transformational self-care coach. I am the CEO of Inner You Clinical Services LLC. I have been a licensed clincial social worker for over 6 years and worked in the social worker field for over 15 years. My journey to starting my private practice and becoming a self-care coach was in 2012, I went into a deep depression with suicidal ideation. I reached out for help only to find that the individuals who were helping me did not look like me, did not talk like me, did not understand me, and did not help me heal my inner child.

Despite getting the help, I needed and being able to crawl out of my black hole alive and well, something was missing. I did not continue with therapy for 6 years because no therapist seemed right after working with several over the years. I continued to struggle with my mental health at times.

In 2017 after leaving a draining career in child protection I began working in a mental health clinic. I wasn’t able to build my niche and work with the clients I enjoyed. I realized that now I was the therapist not serving the population that looked like me, talked like me, and understood.

On the encouragement of family, I decided to start my private practice and Inner You Clincial Services LLC was born in 2018, where I provide individual mental health therapy services. My mission is to help adults overcome challenges in their lives due to anxiety and depression related to trauma by helping them develop necessary tools to manage symptoms in an appropriate and productive manner, so they can take back control of their mind, body, and spirit and enjoy the life they want and deserve.

In 2018, I also resumed therapy with a therapist who I was able to be myself with and feel safe being vulnerable. I began to really pour into myself with self-care. Self-care became a part of my daily life and has been instrumental in helping me find peace. Because I see the value in self-care, I added self-care coaching as a service within my business to help others develop sustainable and achievable self-care plans so they too can live their best lives.

It is important for me to help others see the value in self-care and how it can have a positive impact on overall well-being.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been some challenges on my journey most definitely.

The biggest challenge for me was changing my mindset about everything in life. Not only did I have to change my thought patterns about myself but also the world. Once I was able to move through and change my distorted thought patterns, I was able to see the value of self-care and how to incorporate self-care as a major component of my business for both my coaching clients and my therapy clients.

I no longer allow negative thoughts to dictate my life. This has helped me both personally and professionally. I have a better outlook of the world, have gained self-love, and can relate to my clients because of the struggles they are enduring, I have endured as well and been able to move through them.

Staying consistent has also been a challenge. Procrastination is real, especially when you have so many responsibilities to take care of and working to grow your business as an entrepreneur. However consistency is key. What helps me stay consistent is being organized and structured. I have my daily to do list, stay on task with my monthly calendar and have an accountability partner that we check in with each other mid week. I reward myself with small things for completing my to do lists and affirm myself daily. Taking breaks and incorpating small self-care task throughout my work day like taking a walk, chair yoga and staying hydrated helps me stay motivated, productive and decreases procrastination..

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Inner You Clinical Services LLC is a place of transformation.

Services include individual mental health therapy, group self-care coaching and one to one self-care coaching. I also speak at women empowerment events in the community. In 2022 I will be developing trainings on self-care for businesses to help their employees not experience burn out. I discuss a variety of topics related to self-care and overall wellness on The Purple Butterfly Podcast.

I have also created The Inner You Ultimate Self-Care Workbook, which is a 60-day workbook designed to help individuals with daily self-care journaling and writing prompts to jump start their self-care journey. In 2021 I decided that it was important for me to tell my story and give others the blueprint I used to gain peace and how self-care saved me. I am a co-author in the best selling anthology Blessed Not Broken Vol 4 The Power of Letting Go. In my chapter I discuss my struggles, transformation and growth with the help of self care. If I can help one person gain peace and clarity by hearing my story, than I feel like I did my job.

As a certified trauma-informed individual therapist trained in cognitive behavioral therapy. I work with clients on decreasing mental health issues such as depression and anxiety, related to trauma.

Coaching services is different from therapy in that coaching does not address mental health issues rather it addresses barriers to self-care. My coaching program is designed to help individuals develop a sustainable and achievable self-care plan. During the 3 month program, we address barriers to self-care, what self-care looks like for each individual person, behavioral activation, and staying motivated as well as consistency. I also.provide a 6 week intensive self-care group coaching program.

We really dig deep to ensure each individual has a personalized plan for self-care that will allow them to find peace, clarity, decrease stress and live their best lives. Self-care coaching services are geared towards working women who are overworked, over-stressed, navigating the dating world, raising children, and feel they have no time for themselves while handling life responsibilities.

What sets me apart is being relatable, that is my superpower. The same struggles my client experienced, I have too. My clients are understood and validated. I ensure to give them space to be vulnerable and feel safe discussing their life challenges. I never give them the answer but help guide them to make their own decisions that are best for them.

Inner You Clinical Services LLC is a brand all about self-care, encouragement, transformation, and growth, henceforth the Purple Butterflies in the logo. Everyone who knows me knows I love butterflies as they represent transforming into something beautiful through struggle.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My ability to relate to my clients whether therapy clients or coaching clients has been one quality that has been most important to my success. For me, it is important for my clients to know I am a person with a life, responsibilities, struggles, and successes.

Being relatable with therapy clients has helped those who are anxious about therapy be more open and engaging during sessions. Being relatable with my coaching clients lets them know that the self-care skills we put in place, I have tried.

I am transparent with my coaching clients when it comes to self-care skills that have worked for me as well as the ones that have not. Self-care looks different for everyone, so it’s important to get feedback from someone who has experienced various self-care skills and been successful.
