Hi Davinson Mera Valencia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m originally from Colombia and moved to the U.S. about 10 years ago in search of bigger and better opportunities. Growing up, my biggest dream was to become a professional soccer player. I had been playing since I was a child, and soccer was everything to me. Unfortunately, I suffered a meniscus injury that ended my career and took me off the field for good. At the time, it felt like my world had collapsed. But looking back, I realize that God had a different plan for my life.
After that turning point, I knew I didn’t want to just work for someone else—I wanted to build something of my own. To me, time is the most valuable thing we have, and I wanted the freedom to spend it meaningfully. Around that time, I met my wife, who became my biggest emotional and mental support. Together, we decided to start a business—even though we had no experience, we were hungry to succeed.
That’s how our company was born. The name came from a beautiful combination of my wife’s favorite animal—the shark—and the number I wore during my soccer days—#10. We started small, but every month we’ve hit new milestones and achieved goals we once thought were out of reach.
Today, we live in the Tampa area with our child, and we feel incredibly grateful to be able to provide opportunities for other women by training and supporting them in the cleaning industry. We don’t just teach cleaning—we try to instill values of discipline, confidence, and belief in oneself.
I’ve learned that sometimes life doesn’t go according to our plans, and it may even feel like things are falling apart. But in reality, God might just be redirecting us toward something even greater than we imagined. We just need to have patience, faith, and trust that everything will fall into place at the right time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—like with any journey worth taking, there were challenges along the way.
One of the biggest struggles in the beginning was fear. Fear of change, fear of leaving a stable job for something uncertain, and fear of failure. Starting something from scratch without knowing if it would work was intimidating. Another major challenge was building a client base and generating steady income. It took a lot of patience, resilience, and learning to solve one problem at a time.
Starting a business is never easy, but it’s also not impossible. The most important lesson I’ve learned is that you have to be willing to leave your comfort zone and take risks. Life has shown me that some of the greatest achievements come after our biggest efforts and boldest leaps of faith. Staying in your comfort zone might feel safe, but it won’t lead you to success. You have to push beyond your limits to discover what’s truly possible for you.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Yes, the COVID-19 crisis taught me many valuable lessons—both personally and professionally.
One of the most important lessons I learned was the true value of time and freedom. The pandemic showed us how quickly life can change and how fragile our routines can be. It made me realize that having control over my time and being present for my family was something I no longer wanted to compromise. That realization pushed me even more to pursue entrepreneurship and build something meaningful through Shark10.
It also taught me the importance of adaptability. During the pandemic, many businesses shut down or had to pivot to survive. We learned how to respond quickly, stay organized, and provide services that aligned with new safety standards and client needs. It wasn’t easy, but it helped us become stronger, more flexible, and more intentional in the way we operate.
Lastly, it reminded me that even in the darkest times, God always has a plan. Sometimes what looks like a crisis can actually be the beginning of a new chapter. The pandemic tested us in many ways, but it also gave us the courage to dream bigger, take risks, and trust that better days were ahead.
