Today we’d like to introduce you to Dayana Desir.
Hi Dayana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My Name is Dayana Desir, I was born in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti and migrated to New york city at the age of 9. Lived in New York up until 2016 and relocated to Orlando,Florida and been here ever since. I am 28 years old and a mother of 3, 2 boys and a girl. My passion for hair started when I was just 14 years old. I started off just doing my siblings’ hair and ventured off to working as a braider in an African studio my freshman year of high school. Upon completing my studies I couldn’t decide between being a nurse or a hairstylist since my passion was for both saving lives and Hair. I, of course, went with what I thought was the right choice for me and I started nursing school. I could no longer find the passion to keep me motivated, I was now a broke college student with two kids. I eventually fell right back in the hair industry as a braider and took a break from nursing. I had so much more control of my time, money and clientele because I was now my own boss. As time went back I fell in love with installing wigs and got into constructing and customizing them, I pushed myself and invested in courses and mentorship programs to better my skills. Here I am a year in the wig business doing extremely well and growing daily.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Nothing in life comes easy but again it wouldn’t be worth it if I didn’t have any obstacles. Struggles faced were the legal process and aspect of getting started, designer and vendor search, etc…. One of my biggest struggles was learning how to manage my time while being a wife, mom, employee while running a business. Time management is very important as a wig maker owner because we have turnaround times to respect. Once I got that down pack everything else fell right into place.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Desired Collections?
Desired Collections is a Business where I sell custom glueless wigs, Bundles, Hot tools and more. My wigs are made from scratch using a sewing machine to fit each customer individually. The wigs come fully customized and ready to wear. Although The wig industry is very congested, my diversity is what sets me apart from others. I am extremely proud of the growth of my brand as I continue to evolve. I recently launched my new Desired Collections Keratin Extreme Heat flat irons and Wax Sticks. I Have also been teaching individuals how to not only construct wigs but how to also start a wig business. At Desired Collections we offer a number of services such as wig revamp, closure and frontal replacements. tutorials, wig construction, reconstruction and more.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was a very curious and determined child, I completed any tasks and goals I said I had set for myself. I was interested in anything cosmetic from makeup, to hair. I also loved dancing, it was my escape in some sort of way.
