Inspiring Conversations with Empress Hollings of Enzym Skin Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Empress Hollings.

Hi Empress, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since a kid, I’ve always loved everything hair, makeup and beauty. I knew it was my gift but didn’t take it seriously. My parent’s named me Empress, so I knew I wanted to “grand” things but didn’t know what. Everyone around me also knew beauty was my gift. I remember my aunt Dawn telling me to go to cosmetology school, but I was convinced I wanted to be a doctor. I enjoyed science and anatomy but didn’t know I could use it in other ways. Years later, various schools, career and life changes, I woke up and decided to utilize my gift and pursue the beauty industry.

When deciding whether to go cosmetology school or esthetician school, I didn’t know much about esthetics but it really intrigued me. I liked makeup and thought that would be my focus but from my first skin and facial class, I fell in love with it! My teacher, Ms. Nancy had such a passion for skin and skin anatomy. I soaked every bit of it up. It felt like I was finally on the right path.

I graduated esthi school and was so to eager drive into the world of entrepreneurship, but quickly realized there was still so much to learn. For the next two years, I worked at different spa and waxing franchises, took continuing education courses, gained different certifications, and slowly began to build a foundation for my skin studio today.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely been a journey. With discovering myself, my career, and now starting and running a business. But when I started esthetician school four years ago, my purpose and drive became so clear. I knew I wanted to run my own skincare studio, I knew I wanted to make changes to people’s skin and I knew I wanted to help them feel good about themselves. Every obstacle has just pushed me to where I am today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Enzym Skin Studio?
In science, enzymes are defined as catalyst to change. At Enzym Skin Studio, I’m the catalyst to help you achieve your skincare goals. I pride myself on being a Multicultural Skin Specialist by catering to diversity in everyone’s skin, skin tones, and skin sensitives. I create custom treatments by using a fusion of holistic approaches mixed with results-driven advanced treatments such as hydrodermabrasion, dermaplaning, enzyme treatments, chemical peels, microcurrent, high frequency and more. I work to create a relaxing spa environment while empowering my clients with the right knowledge and products to get and maintain healthy skin.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory was watching my mom and aunts getting dolled up. This was when I first fell in love with everything beauty. My Aunty Dawn was the epitome of a diva. She was always on point! Hair laid, ring and jewels adoring her, and always fully made up. I remember standing, watching from the hallway her, my mom and my other aunt crammed into the bathroom getting dressed and I just stood there in amazement until I was told to go play and stay out of grown folks business. I aspired to be just like them, glamorous, strong and confident. My Aunty Dawn has passed on now, but I know she would be so proud to see me fulfilling my dreams in the beauty industry.
