Today we’d like to introduce you to Eslandie Morilus.
Hi Eslandie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Grew up in Haiti, in a 2-parent household, I was part of the middle-class family, I was what they considered privileged in Haiti. My parent then decided to move me and my siblings here in the United States for better living, I was in the third grade. I then moved back to Haiti because of bullying that I was experiencing here in the US, and completed 4th and 5th grade in Haiti and moved back in the US in the 6th grade. My dad was everything to me and he gave me all I needed, he was an entrepreneur and worked for himself to take care of all his 14 children. My dad was murdered my sophomore year in high school, I was 16th years old and that’s when my life shifted. I then was forced to be an adult at an early age, I got my first job that same year and haven’t stopped working then; but I always knew I didn’t like working for other people, I was switching jobs left and right, but also knew I couldn’t go without a job because I had to provide for myself and my mother who at the time had just moved from Haiti and wasn’t working. After going through multiple jobs and getting all these different experiences, in 2020 it was time for a change for me and I wanted to get into the Tax business, I started with a company called EFP Tax Services, and there they trained me and taught me a lot and the owner Jonathan Brintley pushed me to my full potential in the business. At the end of 2021 I realized how much I loved the industry and helping others, I opened my own Tax company and was able to gain 27 employees under and I can’t thank anyone but God. I then got inspired by a lot of realtors around me and on social media and fell in love with Real Estate and decided to go get my license and was able to obtain the license within less than 2 months, and I am super grateful for that. I must say my dad passing played a major role on who I am today, it affected me to the core, but I was able to keep going and now have a thriving 6 figure business. Seeing my dad go so hard as an entrepreneur, shifted my mentally, and always knew I had to work for myself and couldn’t do corporate. In 2020 I met a few individuals who also played a major role on where I am at today, because those individuals was able to get me back into church and seek God and helped me grow spiritually, and for that I know I can never fail because of the blessings God has poured into my life when I found him and I must say I wouldn’t know where I would be now if I didn’t get closer to God and get my life in order.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t a smooth road; I struggled a lot after my dad died. I struggled with school, where I wasn’t able to get financial aid and had to drop out. I was supposed to graduate college in 2020 but had major setbacks and now finally going to be done this year, I will be graduating in May with my Bachelor Degree in Business. I had major setbacks, financially and mentally. I didn’t know who I wanted to be or what my purpose was. Within those years from 2014-2020, I was lost and broken. I was struggling to make ends meet. It was hard on my mom because it hurt her to see that she wasn’t able to provide to us, so as I was going through my process, I tried to ease her mind and never asked her for anything even when I needed it. I was mentally unstable and suffered depression, I felt like my life would never get right or in order because not only I wasn’t in school, I was working regular jobs that wasn’t paying enough, I then lost my car and couldn’t get one back right away until 2018. The road wasn’t easy but I made it through

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up in Haiti, all I knew was what we call the 3 L’s (Lakay, Lekol, Leglize) which translate to (Home, school, church) lol. My parents was very big on education and church. I grew up in a Christian household. I was always an extrovert growing up, I was friendly and was always one to know a lot of people and had a lot of friends and associate, I guess you can say I was pretty cool lol. As a little girl, I wanted to become and immigration lawyer to help my people out, but as a got in college I switch my major to business because I knew I didn’t want to go through all the schooling that’s involve with law school, but I am still passionate about immigration and international law. I am also a soccer fan, I played soccer in high school for three years and really wanted to play in college as well, but I knew it was all for fun. My interest was always there which is entrepreneur, though at first, I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I always knew it was there. I was always a people person and was always the nice friend, and still is. I had a decent childhood and didn’t go through any childhood trauma thankfully, but I do know I would’ve changed certain things if I could, but I have no regrets.
