Today we’d like to introduce you to Fitzherbert Harry.
Hi Fitzherbert, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into physical therapy began unexpectedly during my second year of college while playing basketball at the University of the Virgin Islands. An injury I sustained during a game introduced me to physical therapy for the first time—not as a profession, but as a system that restores movement, confidence, and identity. That experience stayed with me and ultimately changed the direction of my career.
After graduating from the University of the Virgin Islands with a degree in Biology, I spent three years teaching middle school before entering physical therapy school. Those years in the classroom shaped me more than I realized at the time. Teaching helped refine how I communicate, motivate, and meet people where they are—skills that would later become core to how I practice physical therapy.
I earned my Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Hampton University in 2014 and began my career in an outpatient setting. It didn’t take long before I noticed a troubling pattern: many older adults needed physical therapy, but accessing it was a challenge. Transportation issues caused missed appointments, delayed recovery, and in some cases, complete withdrawal from care. At the same time, these individuals often did not qualify for home health services because they weren’t considered homebound. They were effectively stuck in the middle—needing care, but unable to reach it.
That gap in the system is what gave birth to Harry Physical Therapy & Wellness.
In 2017, after relocating to Florida, I launched the practice with a simple but powerful idea: What if high-quality physical therapy met people where they were—literally? What began as one clinician making house calls grew into a mobile practice serving older adults throughout Central Florida. Families began seeing real improvements not just in mobility, but in confidence, independence, and safety at home. And as word spread, so did our mission.
Over time, we expanded beyond traditional therapy to include fall-prevention services, neurological rehabilitation, and specialized programs for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease. Today, Harry Physical Therapy & Wellness stands as more than a therapy practice—it’s a community-centered organization focused on helping older adults live well, not just longer.
What started as a personal encounter with physical therapy has evolved into a professional calling. But the heart of our work has never changed: to help people move better, live safer, and remain in the place they value most—their home.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road—and in many ways, the early years were the hardest.
When I first launched the business in Orlando, I didn’t have an established network or referral base. I was building from zero—no relationships, no name recognition, and no guaranteed path to trust in a field where credibility matters. Breaking into established medical communities as a new provider required resilience and repetition, often without immediate results.
There were moments that tested my resolve. I can remember organizing what I thought would be a meaningful lunch-and-learn at a physician’s office, only to find that the real work often starts when the room feels empty. Experiences like that reminded me that early on, I wasn’t just selling a service—I was asking people to trust something unknown.
I also encountered skepticism that had little to do with the quality of care I offered and everything to do with how new ideas are often received. When you challenge the status quo, not everyone is willing to listen. Learning how to persist through dismissal without becoming hardened by it was one of my earliest leadership lessons.
Operational challenges continue to evolve. Hiring and retaining therapists in a mobile model comes with its own difficulty. Rising costs of living, increased travel demands, and declining insurance reimbursements make staffing more complex. And yet, we work intentionally to build a culture that reflects our mission—and that’s what ultimately attracts professionals who value impact over convenience.
Every challenge sharpened my perspective and strengthened my purpose. The road wasn’t easy—but it built something real.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Harry Physical Therapy & Wellness exists to solve one problem well: helping older adults stay independent in their own homes for as long as possible.
We specialize in in-home physical and occupational therapy for seniors, with a strong focus on fall prevention, neurological rehabilitation, and mobility loss related to conditions like Parkinson’s disease, dementia, and stroke. Our approach goes beyond treating a single injury—we assess the entire environment, the caregiver dynamic, and daily movement patterns that affect safety and independence.
What sets us apart is simple but powerful: we don’t wait for people to reach a clinic—we bring care to where life actually happens. Working in the home allows us to identify real risk factors, customize treatment to everyday challenges, and make immediate improvements that reduce falls and hospitalizations.
We’re also known for education. We teach families, caregivers, and patients how to move safely, prevent injury, and maintain function long after therapy sessions end. Our mission isn’t dependence—it’s confidence and independence.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is trust. We are invited into homes during vulnerable moments, and that trust consistently turns into long-standing relationships with patients and families. That speaks more than any advertisement ever could. Word of mouth continues to be our biggest referral source.
I want readers to know that we are not a volume-driven business. We are purpose-driven. Every visit, every program, and every decision we make centers on treating everyone like how we treat our own family. Harry Physical Therapy & Wellness isn’t just a service—it’s peace of mind for families and freedom for the people we serve.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is growing up in St. Thomas and spending time outdoors with family and friends. Life felt slower and more connected—neighbors knew each other, and time was spent really being present. Wherever you go on the island people will greet friends and strangers with a smile and a “hello”. That sense of community is something I still carry with me today and try to build into the way I lead my business.
