Today we’d like to introduce you to Good Roast
Hi there, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Coffee has a funny way of bringing people together—and for us, it turned out to be the beginning of everything. My then girlfriend and I first locked eyes at a coffee shop in Orlando. It was love at first sip.
Eventually we wedded and we decided to live abroad in Asia, where we reconnected with family in Saigon who, as fate would have it, were in the coffee business. This was where we discovered the holy grail of brews: fresh Vietnamese coffee. Smooth, bold, nutty, and slightly sweet… leagues above what we’d been drinking back in the States!
Eventually, we returned to America to start a family. We were thrilled to begin this new chapter but utterly heartbroken over leaving that magical Vietnamese coffee behind. That’s when we had an epiphany: Why not bring it here? Enter: Aggresso Beans—a labor of love, caffeine, and sheer determination with roasters and coffee geniuses on our team!
We started small, selling our perfectly roasted beans online and at local markets in Orlando. The mission? Rescue people from that questionable “yellow can” they’d been using to make Vietnamese coffee at home. (You know the one.) With every bag we sold, our dream grew bigger—and so did our savings. Eventually, we splurged on a commercial espresso machine so people could finally taste a real cup of Vietnamese coffee. At first, our menu had exactly two items: Vietnamese coffee and an ube cloud drink. Simple, yet unbeatable.
Two years (and about what seemed a million cups of coffee) later, we opened a charming little café on Curry Ford and Dean. What started as a two-item menu is now a bustling hotspot with over 20 items, but Aggresso Beans and Vietnamese Coffee remains our best seller. Our customers, many of whom followed us from market to market in those early days, now have a home base where they can grab their beans, hang out, and connect with others.
That’s what inspired our new name: Good Roast. Because it’s not just about great coffee—it fostered good relationships, good connections, and opportunities. Orlando is our home and we strive to cultivate a space where we all can come together to celebrate the first Florida cold front, coffee-prep for hurricane season, and get local artists out to showcase their art and music.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Opening a coffee shop was like making the perfect cup of coffee—it might look smooth, but behind the scenes, there’s a lot of grinding, timing, and sometimes, the occasional spill. We had a solid plan, a great team, and enough caffeine to keep us going, so while there were challenges, we managed to make it look like smooth sailing most of the time.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Good Roast?
At Good Roast, it’s more than a great cup of coffee. We foster good relationships, good connections, and opportunities. It’s a true passion project, driven by our desire to share great coffee through our own lens of goodness. That’s why the name is Good Roast, good always comes first.
What were you like growing up?
We both graduated high school in central Florida. Go West Orange Warriors and Edgewater Eagles! Very prideful kids and still this day keep in touch with our former teachers and faculty. Growing up, our parents were really into the Vietnamese community. We went to all of the events and got to meet other kids along the way. We were very involved in the community events.
