Inspiring Conversations with Greg Fyock of HomeTech Home Inspections

Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Fyock.

Greg, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hometech Home Inspections has been around for 30 years. I bought the business in 2012 after working for the previous owner (who happened to be named Greg) for 2 years. Ironically his previous inspector was named Greg, as well. At the time it was just me inspecting homes and our longtime admin, Margie, scheduling from her kitchen table. Hometech Home Inspections had been a thriving business that also did appraising prior to the crash of 2008. After starting with Hometech I began to see the opportunity to grow the business and began implementing what I could to do so. After purchasing the company in 2012 I was able to freely make the improvements I saw fit and enjoyed honing and improving my skills as an inspector and building relationships with our clients and realtor partners.
As the client base grew it became evident that I needed help and I started to hire assistants, training them to become inspectors.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
That’s when things became challenging. I knew nothing about training, leading a team, or growing a business. I was basically making it up as I went along, I was working a lot of hours and always wearing multiple hats. I often felt I was running in circles. I eventually realized I needed help, I needed education, I needed to figure out the things that I didn’t know that I didn’t know! Through conferences, books, and mentorship from a successful multi-inspector company owner, I learned that building a great business starts with personal growth and great people. I think so often we are focused on the next thing, the next tool, the next certification, or some other material thing that will make everything better and create success. While all of those are essential, what I have found is that having the right people around me and developing the inner characteristics of a successful leader were paramount. This growth allowed me to evolve from a successful one man inspection company, often referred to as a “Chuck in a truck” in my industry, to being part of an amazing team that delivers on our mission of delivering a 7 out of 5 star experience every time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Today we are a team of 5 experienced inspectors, a dynamic operational manager, a bright and attentive customer service rep, and a charismatic growth coordinator. If it has to do with inspections, we either do it or can guide you to someone that does. We offer home inspections for buyers and sellers, insurance related inspections, air sampling for mold, water sampling, pool inspections, sewer scopes, commercial inspections and much, much more.

I am a passionate surfer and an avid animal lover, and a portion of every inspection goes to the Surfrider Foundation that fights for the conservation, rehabilitation, and protection of waterways in five continents as well as Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando that provides shelter, food, and medical care for over 3500 homeless dogs and cats annually.

I am most proud and grateful for our team. What I want readers to know most is that Hometech Home Inspections really cares about our clients, about are associates and about each other. The degree of thoroughness and detail in our inspections, the level of customer service we provide, and the empathetic connection we build in our relationships sets us apart from other inspection companies.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
This industry is rapidly evolving with everything else in this world. AI is being integrated into everything from the inspection to the phone call. Private equity is buying up inspection companies and diluting the quality of inspections. On the same hand a one-man inspection company is incapable of effectively keeping up with what it takes to provide the high level of service now required in this industry. Hometech stays committed to something technology can’t replace; experienced inspectors, personal relationships, and honest advice.
As this industry changes and evolves with AI and integration, so are we. From advanced energy reports, integrated concierge services, specified maintenance reminders, to advanced inspection technology, Hometech is implementing the future into every inspection. Right now, Hometech is in growth mode, reaping the rewards of years of hard work and breaking through previous ceilings. We will continue to focus on our mission of providing a 7 out of 5-star experience and lean into our core values of gratitude, integrity, humility, discipline, excellence, and empathy. We are excited for our future and eager to help wherever we can. If you need anything related to inspections or anything else we are here to help.
