Inspiring Conversations with Greg Gammino of Alchemy Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Gammino.

Hi Greg, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been that kid who couldn’t stop drawing. My school notes were full of logo sketches, video game characters, and new basketball shoe ideas. I had an entire notebook just for sneaker designs. I was obsessed with album art too – especially the covers that blended graphic design with weird, artsy vibes. No matter what was going on, I couldn’t sit still unless I was creating. It’s a switch I’ve never been able to turn off.

I was lucky to grow up right as the internet and digital tech were starting to take off. I still remember getting a 56K modem and thinking that was peak speed, lol. On the computer side, I lived in two programs: Visual Basic 3.0 and Adobe Photoshop 4.0. I made splash screens and intro art for random software my friends and I would create, just for fun. Then I started freelancing, coding websites straight out of Notepad.exe and designing everything by hand. I didn’t go to school for that stuff – I just figured it out because I loved it.

After college, I earned a Bachelor’s in graphic design and worked for design firms while freelancing on the side. I was a generalist at first, doing everything from pizzeria menus to truck wraps to black & white newspaper ads. That range taught me a ton. But eventually, I outgrew that role and launched my own studio because I wanted the freedom and upside of building something for myself. Once I started meeting directly with clients, I felt this creative rush – helping people translate their ideas into something real was incredibly fulfilling.

I built Alchemy Design as an all-purpose studio at first, but over time, I realized I wasn’t just here to “make things look pretty.” What I really cared about was helping people own who they are. Helping brands feel unique. Not afraid to be different.

I never wanted Alchemy to feel like a corporate agency. That world always felt stiff and full of fake jargon. I wanted to build a studio where clients could be real with us – and we could be real with them. No gimmicks. No fluff. Just honest feedback and great work. We treat our clients like trusted friends and give them the clarity, direction, and confidence to build a brand that actually moves the needle.

These days, I specialize in brand design – blending strategy with creativity to help people stand out for the right reasons. I was raised in NYC, but moved to Orlando because that was always the plan. My family’s been here for over 30 years, and I love the vibe. The people are friendly, the weather’s great, and the energy is just different in the best way.

Every project still feels like a privilege. I get to help people bring their vision to life, and it honestly blows my mind that I get paid to do something I love. For me, design is like seeing the Matrix – putting the pieces together until it all just clicks. That feeling never gets old.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not a smooth road – hell no, LOL.

When I look back at all the stuff I didn’t know and still dove in headfirst, I must’ve been out of my mind. But honestly, I think you need that kind of blissful ignorance mixed with determination and drive. My parents weren’t thrilled about it at first. They knew it was risky, but they also knew I was serious. I always said, “I believe in myself. Worst case, I’ll get another job. But I’ve got to try.”

Some of the biggest struggles were just being way out of my comfort zone. I didn’t know how to handle client calls, sales objections, contracts, systems – all of that was foreign to me. There was no roadmap. I remember watching my entire savings account dwindle down to $1,500 at one point. That was terrifying. But when your back’s against the wall, what separates you is how you respond. That pressure either crushes you or makes you level up.

The truth is, you have to constantly evolve. What got you started won’t get you to the next level. And I’ve learned a lot of that the hard way.

To this day I am still adapting, and will continue to do so forever.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Right now, we specialize in branding. On the surface, that means things like logos, websites, and graphic design work – the stuff most people recognize. But what we actually do goes WAY deeper than just visuals.

We help businesses build a brand that gets noticed, remembered, and talked about. Everything we create is backed by strategy – designed not just to look cool, but to actually help our clients market themselves better, attract the right people, and grow. We want our clients to stand out and become leaders in their space.

One thing that really sets us apart is the experience. We’ve created a design process that’s collaborative but hands-off. As a business owner myself, I know how stretched thin entrepreneurs are. Most don’t want to babysit a designer or sit through endless meetings – they want results. We’ve built a process that makes it easy for them to get exactly what they need, without the stress or the back-and-forth. We know how to pull the vision out of their head and turn it into something real.

One of the projects I’m most proud of is a brand called “Totally Psyched!” in Winter Garden. The founder, Kristopher Oldham, came to me with a wild idea – fusing mental healthcare with the bold, electric spirit of the 80s. At first I thought, “This guy might be insane,” but it ended up being one of the most fun and rewarding projects we’ve ever done. That’s the kind of work we love – helping bold ideas come to life in ways people don’t expect.

At the end of the day, Alchemy Design isn’t just about making things look good. It’s about building brands that actually work – brands that feel different, attract attention, and help our clients grow.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
This one’s kind of weird because I’m a pretty open book – what you see is what you get. I record videos, post on social, have gotten millions of views, and I can talk to just about anyone… but believe it or not… I’m actually super introverted.

Most people are surprised to hear that. I love alone time. I recharge by being at home, hanging with my girlfriend and my two cats, just doing my thing in peace. The creative work, the focus, the deep thinking – that all comes from having that quiet space to just be. So yeah, I might be out here doing all the loud stuff online and in-person, but behind the scenes, I’m chilling at home, probably in comfy clothes, with a cat in my lap and a game or movie on in the background.

Also, I play D&D regularly… HAHA… shoutout to the Hardy Boys!
