Today we’d like to introduce you to Harry Herzig.
Harry, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Orlando City Pasta was founded 10 years ago in the spirit of those Sundays spent hand-rolling fresh pasta for dinner. Now under new ownership, our mission is to share those time-honored traditions of what fresh pasta embodies with the Greater Orlando area. As well as classic flavors such as 4 Cheese Ravioli, we strive to push boundaries and develop innovative flavors such as our Braised Brisket Ravioli. Our goal is to continue to provide Orlando with a cooking resource that brings the family together – fresh pasta.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a small business, challenges are just a given part of the journey. With new ownership coming in at the tail-end of 2020, the experiences of a Covid ravaged food industry were hardly the easiest of environments to get started in. The struggle to find help was a very pressing concern, as was the rampant inflation seen by mid-2021. But through it all, our customers have stood by us and supported our expansion to help us emerge through these continuing challenges stronger than before.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We have been central Florida’s premier fresh pasta creators for going on 10 years now. It all started with helping my mother make the pasta for dinner back in Cleveland as a boy growing up. Those fond memories served as the catalyst to launch Orlando City Pasta… and serve Central Florida something it was sorely lacking – quality fresh pasta. We continue this passion for fresh pasta of the highest quality today, always trying to innovate our offerings and focus on a seasonal approach to ingredients. Our products include fresh pasta, gnocchi, ravioli, sauce, pesto, and take n’bake meals, all produced in-house in small batches. We are proud of our farmer’s market focus, allowing us to connect to our local communities and understand our customers on a more personal level.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Your network is built by asking questions and asking a lot of different people those questions. Don’t be afraid to reach out to other vendors, pop into shops, join a local business group, etc. If you don’t ask, you won’t find out.
