Inspiring Conversations with Janie-Alice Seecharan of Ignite Your Flow Yoga & Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janie-Alice Seecharan

Hi Janie-Alice, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started Ignite Your Flow at the end of 2022 after about 2 years into my own healing journey. After a 7-year career in Corporate Finance, climbing the Corporate ladder led to burn out and took a toll on my physical and mental health and at the end of 2020, I made the decision to leave it all behind. I was working in a fast-paced environment, constantly chasing external achievements, and somewhere along the way, I lost touch with myself. Although, I was very successful and thriving in my career at a young age, it felt as if life’s demands pulled me in every direction, and I started prioritizing everything else above me – work, family, relationships; showing up for others and leaving no space to show up for me. It was crucial to start finding a way back home to myself. It was a hard decision but at the end of 2020, I left the Corporate world and embarked on my own healing journey to recover from burnout, high levels of stress and anxiety, the inability to feel safe to be vulnerable, to be imperfect, and to ask for support.

Through my own healing journey, I found my way back to Yoga – it felt like a homecoming. It reminded me of the strength, resilience, and peace I’ve always carried within, even during life’s most chaotic moments. Yoga had always been a sacred part of my life and my self-care practices but I lost touch with my practice over the years. Through reconnecting to and deepening my own Yoga and spiritual practices especially meditation and breathwork, it led me to reconnect with my most authentic self, reignite my self-confidence, and give myself permission to take up space – to unapologetically be me and put myself first without guilt. This journey led me to a stronger connection, understanding, and awareness of Self, ultimately providing a deep healing of self-love and self-trust. It also led to the beautiful creation of Ignite Your Flow!

Starting Ignite Your Flow has been as much an inner journey as an entrepreneurial one – exhilarating and humbling… and when they say entrepreneurship isn’t for the faint of heart – I can affirm this! But I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to build my business and bring my vision to fruition even through moments of imperfection and challenges. In just two short years, it’s been incredible to watch my vision grow into reality and this is only the beginning. I’ve also been able to learn so much more about myself, healing parts of me that I didn’t know needed healing, and growing into the best version of me. I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without the support of my family, friends, community, and all the wonderful beings who support of Ignite Your Flow – I am immensely grateful!

Today, I’m so honored to lead a powerful and growing community of beautiful souls. Ignite Your Flow is much more than a business – it is an offering from my heart – a community, a space where people can feel seen, supported, safe, and inspired. For me, building this community meant leading with authenticity, showing up vulnerably, and listening deeply to the needs of the people I serve. Teaching yoga isn’t just about guiding people through sequences or meditations; it is about creating spaces where people can feel empowered to truly be the leader of their life, to show up as their most whole and authentic self, and to tap into the growth and power that comes from vulnerability and being in community. It’s about fostering deep connections and guiding others to create a holistic and mindful practice that can support them through all seasons of life—physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. An approach that not only benefits the individual but the collective as well – knowing when you show up and care for yourself, that overflowing energy naturally flows into those you love, your community, and the world around you. Seeing my clients grow, heal, and rediscover their strength reminds me every day why I started this journey. Yoga isn’t just a career for me; it’s a calling and deeply personal. I’m so grateful for all the support thus far and for every person I’ve met along the way even if our paths have only crossed once.

I always tell my clients that healing doesn’t happen overnight and Yoga is not the golden ticket nor is it a replacement for medical care but it has been such a crucial tool in my own journey especially for my mental health and I knew I needed to share these practices with the community. Stress and chaos will always exist in our day to day but Yoga equips us with tools that allows us to show up stronger and with resilience. When I reflect on the journey that led me here, I know I am exactly where I’m meant to be. I don’t regret my previous career, it equipped me with essential skills and knowledge to be able to run my own business. I also think back to college (I went to the University of Florida – Go Gators!) and outside of my major in Finance, I was inspired by a friend to pursue a minor in Entrepreneurship. I dreamed to be my own boss – not knowing if I would actually start a business or what type of business I would create. Also, when I did enter the workforce, I always said when I retired – I would move to an island, open a tiki bar, and teach Yoga on the beach. I’m proud this dream is a reality sooner than later in some sense even though I’m far from being retired and not living on an island yet! These parts of my journey validate that it is in my soul to build Ignite Your Flow and the opportunities that I’ve been presented and blessed with in this short amount of time since I started Ignite Your Flow have served as signs that I’m doing exactly what I should be doing in divine timing.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey has not been linear but I’m here for the marathon, not the sprint and I am grateful for all the ebbs and flows along the way. Even when challenges arise, I’m grateful for my courage and resilience to push forward and pivot when needed. Reminding myself that discipline and consistency even when I don’t always know what is next is key to building a genuine brand and business from the heart.

One of my biggest challenges was finding my voice and overcoming self-doubt. Yoga is deeply personal to me, and I’ve never shared this part of me so publicly before. Early on, I struggled with imposter syndrome (and still do sometimes), questioning whether I had anything unique to offer. I eventually realized that authenticity was my greatest strength—connecting with people as I am, imperfections and all, is what makes the work meaningful and my offerings special.

Another significant hurdle has been building a sustainable business and balancing the demands of entrepreneurship while staying true to my mission. There are moments (even to this day) when I feel stretched thin—juggling marketing, social media, finances, consistency in class attendance and private bookings, scheduling, teaching, and the list goes on. At times, it can be overwhelming, but it also pushes me to grow in ways I hadn’t anticipated. One area of growth has been learning to be patient with myself which has been a learning curve especially coming from previously working in a very fast-paced industry. I’ve had to unlearn things – reminding myself my productivity does not define my worth, rest is essential, and small progress is still progress. I have learned the power of slowing down and giving myself space and grace to evolve and grow Ignite Your Flow at a pace that feels good to me as I create something new, something I’ve never done before.

When things feel challenging, I always remind myself that I’m committed to the long term journey and I’m content with growing at my own pace even if that may be portrayed as a slow growth to others or even if I encounter setbacks along the way. I know there will continue to be highs and lows but each obstacle reminds me that I’m here for the long run and deepens my purpose, ultimately bringing me closer to the community I’ve built thus far and the mission I stand for.

We’ve been impressed with Ignite Your Flow Yoga & Wellness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
One beauty about Ignite Your Flow is that is it not bound to a studio – my business is mobile and my offerings are flexible in many ways with in person and virtual options. I love collaborating with other local businesses and hosting special pop-up classes and events. However, you can find me weekly in Thornton Park at The Veranda, in Kissimmee at the Oak Street Park Community Center, and in St. Cloud at Key Life Fitness with consistent offerings. Most of my in person classes are outdoor which I believe truly allows people to disconnect and create space to align within and with nature. I believe it is important to provide spaces that showcase yoga as a practice that is adaptable and can be practiced without requirements – as it should be.

My mission is to provide a holistic and transformative experience for one’s body, mind, and soul. To build a community where you can feel seen, safe, and fully supported. My various offerings centered around ancient yogic practices and philosophies holds space for people to step into their power, embody their truth, and ignite their highest Self with an unbreakable self-confidence and self-trust – learning to heal through vulnerability, learning to heal from within, learning to heal in community.

I have personally practiced yoga for 8+ years and in recent years had the honor of deepening my practice through completing my yoga teacher training (RYT-200) and continuing to build my knowledge through various trainings and workshops. As an Indo-Caribbean Yoga Practitioner, I have ancestral roots to the beautiful, ancient practice of Yoga and it has been a beautiful journey deepening my knowledge. I’ve had the opportunity to teach and work with clients from various backgrounds and age groups to better their overall health and well-being which has expanded my experience and knowledge as well. Knowing not everyone is capable of leaving their 9 to 5 and hitting a hard reset button on life, I strive to make yoga accessible by offering a wide range of services and creating a welcoming and inclusive space with the intention of sharing yoga beyond the physical practice to allow Yoga to be a tool that one can integrate into their daily life and lifestyle. I truly believe yoga is for everyone – you do not need to be flexible to practice yoga, you don’t need to look a certain way or have a certain body type – there are many ways to connect with Yoga and each individual is encouraged to explore and find what works for them!

I strive to empower others to confidently put themselves first without guilt, set healthy boundaries, and find sanctuary within themselves by utilizing movement, breath, and meditation to shift their mindset, unlock their truest essence, and become the highest version of themselves. It is my honor to cultivate community to share the knowledge and practices I’ve gained through my journey and trainings, especially with fellow Indo-Caribbean and Caribbean folks, who may not have the support or knowledge to tend to their mental health and well-being.

I offer various in person or virtual sessions and provide services including private 1:1/group yoga and meditation, mentorship and coaching containers, public group classes and events, exploration of yoga philosophy and mindfulness practices, prenatal/postpartum yoga, cacao ceremonies, women empowerment circles, wellness retreats, corporate events, conferences, and so much more! For private bookings, my services are mobile to Central FL so I travel to the client and I provide all the yoga mats and materials for your session – all you need is yourself!

I believe what sets me apart is the sincere intentionality and personal touch I bring to every session. From thoughtful details like personalized affirmations, fresh flowers, and custom guided meditations to creating a welcoming space for all skill levels, my goal is to make each experience special and deeply meaningful. I do my best to get to know each person I cross paths with, whether it is a private session or public group class. Yoga, to me, is more than just movement—it’s about connection, mindfulness, and community. I create each session from the heart and I know it is felt deeply by those who attend.

I’m most proud of the sense of community and trust that my brand has cultivated. The impact and connections I’ve made in such a short time is astonishing! Two years into Ignite Your Flow and I still view my brand and community as a baby – in need of deep nourishment – savoring the moments of taking the time to slowly build in a way that highlights the integrity and discipline that is required to build something so special!

Also, hearing how clients feel supported, grounded, and revitalized after sessions inspires me to continue sharing my passion. Whether it’s a group session under the full moon, a private experience at a serene Airbnb, or simply holding space for someone’s first yoga practice, I strive to offer more than just a class—I offer a sanctuary, a place of belonging, a place of simply being. Also, I absolutely love when people meet through my classes and create meaningful friendships – it truly warms my heart to bring people together.

For your readers, I’d love for them to know that my offerings are designed with inclusivity and intention in mind – I aim to meet each individual in the present moment and honor where they are. My mission is to create a safe, nurturing environment where anyone can explore their practice and connect with themselves. If you’re looking for a yoga community that’s uplifting, thoughtful, and heartfelt, I’d be honored to share this journey with you.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
COVID-19 was a real eye-opener for me and definitely acted as a catalyst to my story and transition into entrepreneurship. In a time where we were all forced to slow down, I finally had to face all the things that had built up over the years. It shed light on the misalignment and imbalances in my life – constantly putting the needs of others before my own, deprioritizing my self-care practices, living outside of my values, and not upholding my boundaries. I was battling idealism around perfectionism, bottling up emotions, quieting my inner voice, not advocating for myself, not standing in my truth. It gave me the space to really look at my day to day lifestyle and forced me to re-evaluate how I wanted to show up in the world especially in a time of uncertainty. I was reminded of the things that were truly important to me – family, community, and the importance of self-care especially around mental health.

The pandemic was a test of my resilience and strength to take action towards making the necessary changes to take back control of my life – focusing on things that were actually within my control. I wanted to wake up every day with a smile of gratitude for simply being alive, to find joy and contentment in the mundane day to day, and to shift my mindset out of survival mode. I no longer wanted to be the person who only looked forward to the weekend or only found joy on vacation – only to return to a reality of dread. I wanted to return to being the version of myself that could wholeheartedly feel that every day was a blessing even if things are imperfect, stressful, and chaotic. It was a great lesson on learning to leave when things no longer feel aligned and remembering taking action will always conquer fear – do it scared!

The pandemic reminded me the importance of adaptability because in life the only constant is change. My previous career definitely played a role in my strength to adapt but also seeing firsthand, the affects the pandemic had on our daily life and businesses of all sizes gave me a perspective that I could apply in the creation of Ignite Your Flow. When I started Ignite Your Flow, I wanted to make sure that there was flexibility in my offerings to easily pivot from in person to virtual in case we ever faced another pandemic in the future. Not only from a business standpoint but also to ensure that I could support my community even from a distance – emphasizing the deeper connection yoga brings, the adaptability of this practice, and its ability to meet people where they are. It helped me get clear on what I wanted Ignite Your Flow to be for the community – a safe space where people could come together, share their struggles, and feel seen – to foster that sense of belonging, no matter the medium.

COVID-19 also reinforced the importance of self-care—remembering how essential it is to refill my own cup, especially during times of stress. This truly led me back to a deeper yoga practice which helped me gain knowledge around deep listening, deep compassion, deep understanding for myself and for others. It reminded me to always lead with love, compassion, and kindness even if I’m not met with those same emotions. It emphasized the importance of connection, presence, and adaptability—qualities that I instilled in the creation of Ignite Your Flow.
