Today we’d like to introduce you to Keila Cruz Camacho.
Hi Keila, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began my journey in the insurance industry in 2003 in Puerto Rico with Great American Life, now known as Triple-S. At that time, I was facing significant personal and financial challenges, yet I chose to step into this industry with determination and faith. I started as a Life and Health Insurance Agent, taking my first steps in what would eventually become my true purpose.
Later, I assumed the role of Supervisor, leading a team of agents for four years. This stage was pivotal in my professional development, allowing me to gain invaluable industry knowledge and strengthen my leadership skills—foundations that would shape my future growth.
In 2014, I made one of the most important decisions of my life: moving to Florida. As a single mother of three children, one of whom lives with chronic diabetes, I sought better opportunities and an improved quality of life for my family—especially for my son. The transition was far from easy. Without immediate support to continue my insurance career, I had no choice but to work in a department store, taking overnight shifts from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., solely to meet my children’s basic needs.
After six months of perseverance and sacrifice, I successfully transferred my insurance license to Florida and began working as an independent agent, reclaiming the path I always knew was meant for me.
In 2016, I took an even greater leap of faith and founded my own insurance company. It was an extremely challenging year—I started with only four agents—but my determination, discipline, and drive for growth never wavered. Today, I am proud to say that this vision has grown into an organization with over 500 agents, operating in 38 states, including Puerto Rico.
This journey has been deeply meaningful to me because it reinforces a belief I have always carried:
those who persevere, succeed—especially when guided by a positive attitude, faith, and unwavering commitment. My story is proof that obstacles do not define our destiny; rather, it is the decision to move forward despite them that does.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been an easy journey at all. Along the way, I encountered many obstacles and setbacks, including people who appeared to help but did not always act with honesty or transparency. As I continued learning the insurance industry in Florida, I quickly realized that it is very different from Puerto Rico—in its regulations, structure, and overall market. There were moments when I felt overwhelmed and questioned whether I could keep going.
However, each time doubt crept in, I reminded myself of everything I had already overcome. Remembering my past struggles reignited my motivation and gave me the strength to continue pursuing what I set out to build.
The reality is that insurance agents face real and constant challenges: ongoing regulatory changes, continuous licensing and certification requirements, strict compliance standards, delayed commissions, lack of proper support, intense competition, and, at times, misinformation that affects both agents and clients. Despite these challenges, we push forward because we understand the responsibility we carry and the impact our work has on individuals and families.
This journey has taught me that setbacks are not failures—they are lessons. Perseverance, ethics, preparation, and a positive mindset are what truly make the difference. And while the road may not be easy, it is always worth it when walked with integrity, resilience, and purpose.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
At this time, I do not have a widely recognized mentor; however, my greatest support within the insurance industry was the first person who truly believed in me—Boanerges Rosario. During the years we worked together, he consistently spoke positively about my potential and encouraged me to see beyond my limitations. Every time I faced a setback, he reminded me of a phrase that has stayed with me throughout my career:
“If your attitude is greater than your skills, even the impossible becomes possible.”
That statement means everything to me. It became a guiding principle that continues to motivate me to push forward, especially during challenging moments.
Equally important, my greatest driving force has always been my children. They have stood by me through both the good times and the difficult ones, providing the daily support, strength, and inspiration I need to keep moving forward. Through them, I have learned that true success is not only defined by professional achievements, but by resilience, perseverance, and leading with purpose and heart.
