Today we’d like to introduce you to Keith Mahne.
Keith, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My wife and I were visiting Florida from New Orleans where we are originally from as we moved here in 2015 so this was before then when we walked in and noticed a specific scent being piped into the lobby of a high-end Orlando area resort and we loved it. After doing some research, we discovered the scent used was a fragrance called green clover and aloe. Once we moved to the Orlando area in 2015 since we love the area so much and went back to that particular resort, I decided afterwards to create our first candle to use in our home with this fragrance. I soon thought, “there’s probably a lot of other people out there who want the same thing, and that’s how it all began.” This is what kicked off the idea of creating a candle company that featured highly themed fragrances which would help people relive and recapture a past memory or vacation experience through their sense of smell. Our sense of smell is the strongest of the five scenes when it comes to memory. Smells can transport us back to powerful and emotional memories from the past more effectively than any of the five senses and play a huge role in our nostalgic love of our favorite vacation spots. The smell of a tropical beach, a theme park water ride, burning embers, the smell as you walk past an old-fashioned ice cream parlor and, one of my personal favorites, the smell of a beautifully themed resort lobby. We now offer 70 different fragrances which can be purchased as a candle, wax melt, room spray, fragrance oil or air freshener. We also now offer our own themed Tiki Wax Warmers and Tiki Aroma Diffusers along with bath products such as bath fizzies, shower melts and foaming hand soaps. My dream was to one day work with a well-known theme park or popular vacation destination spot so you can imagine my excitement when Universal Studios reached out to us to make themed candles for their theme parks. The best part of this though is when a customer emails us after receiving an order to say that they were brought to tears after smelling a particular scent because it reminded them of a past vacation experience with a family member who perhaps is no longer with us or how happy their son or daughter was when they smelled one of our themed fragrance products. That’s the sort of thing that makes what we do worth it!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I think running a business is never going to be 100% smooth. There will always be something that needs to be corrected or adjusted but when you do something you love you don’t let those struggles affect you. You find a way to overcome and to ensure your customers are satisfied. We value the feedback of our customers more than anything else. We will often tweak a fragrance if we feel the feedback isn’t meeting expectations. Also, with COVID last year and everyone being home, our sales exploded but our supply chain was severely delayed so that was a process of trying to inform customers of the situation at hand and most were extremely understanding. I think they wanted something that would remind them of better days during that period of time and we were beyond honored to help provide that for them.

The Magic Candle Company® specializes in making highly themed fragrances that allow you to relive past vacation memories and experiences. Our trademarked slogan is “Bringing the Vacation to You®”. We are most proud of being able to help people recapture magical memories spent with friends and family through their sense of smell.
Any big plans?
We have expanded to making candles in my two-car garage back when we first started to now having three large warehouse units in an Orlando business park. We are looking forward to expanding our brand by working with popular vacation companies such as Universal Studios as we do now and becoming a well-known household candle company brand.
