Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Pearson.
Hi Kendra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am super excited to have this amazing opportunity to interview with you! I am originally from St. Petersburg, FL but currently reside in Orlando, FL. I am also the proud mom of two amazing young adults.
In regards to my business, my journey really began in October of 2019. On the way to church, I felt God speak to my heart about starting my virtual assistant business. It was so clear that it felt like I heard Him say the actual words! I jotted down the words virtual assistant on a piece of paper and looked it up after church to see exactly what a virtual assistant did… I literally had no clue lol.
Upon looking up this urgent topic that had been placed on my heart, I found that this business would allow me to marry the two things that I loved to do…helping others and performing administrative duties. It has been said that your gifting is something that you do naturally, and I have found this to be quite true!
My initial plans were to work full time and start my VA business as a side hustle. But alas, that was not God’s plan for my life! As soon as I officially completed the last step of opening my business, my full-time j-o-b laid me off due to a company merger! Like literally, I opened my business bank account on a Friday and was laid off the following Wednesday… all right before the pandemic took our lives by storm.
It has not been over a year now, and I am still here. The journey has not been the easiest, but I am still passionate about helping others which in turn helps my community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My entrepreneurial journey has been bananas! Lol. I thought I was going to have time to take the slowly but surely route to become a full-time business owner. You know, add a client here or there… test it out… make corrections, etc. However, it didn’t work out that way. I quickly came to understand the importance of having the right mindset. I am 42 years old and have been an employee for the bulk of that time. How do you switch from having an “employee” mindset to an “employer” mindset? It was and still is challenging for me at times.
Another challenge that I struggled with was placing proper value on my services. How do you determine your worth… and actually believe that you are worth just that? And most importantly, believing in yourself enough to stand by your prices no matter what.
Lastly, figuring out how to properly market my business has been interesting. This was and is a struggle because I had to learn the difference between being informative and bragging/boasting. From a child, we are taught to not be prideful and many, including myself, have taken that to mean that one shouldn’t talk about ourselves at all. I have come to realize that you will never know what I can do if I do not tell you.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Speak L.Y.F.E. Virtually?
Speak L.Y.F.E. Virtually is an administrative virtual assistance business that is designed to assist other business owners by managing the administrative tasks that are of great importance but often take up valuable time. At Speak L.Y.F.E. Virtually, we recognize that business owners need to both make that next connection or sale as well as provide excellent customer service to current clients.
The L.Y.F.E. in the name Speak L.Y.F.E Virtually. is actually an acronym that stands for Leading by Example, Yielding to the Spirit, Falling Forward Always, and Edifying others. We believe that these key ingredients help us to both stand out from other VA businesses as well as serve as a reminder of how to conduct ourselves in our day-to-day life.
Our services include but are not limited to Data Entry, Email Management, Customer Service, Notary Services, Event Planning, System Implementation, CRM Management, etc… Essentially, we sweat the small stuff so you don’t have to!
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I truly believe that a successful day starts with a powerful and positive beginning. I really enjoy several podcasts like Side Hustle Pro, Goal Digger, and Let’s Talk Business. I also love to listen to books via Audible and have appreciated books such as Who Moved My Cheese, Soar!, 360 Leader, etc.
