Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Reynolds
Hi Kimberly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in this beautiful city of Orlando and am proud to be a rare native. I graduated from Winter Springs High School with a passion for people and what brings the best out of them. When it comes to photography, I’ve always had a keen eye for it, but never really took it seriously until my 30’s. Late start, I know! I believe it’s never too late to begin a business or career in what you’re passionate about. I was able to mix both of my passions of people and photography in what I do for a living and I feel blessed for it. Every type of session has it’s own set of highs for me, whether it’s families with little kiddos running around, maternity shoots of first time mothers, or high school senior’s graduating and feeling proud of themselves.
In a way, I feel bonded with all my clients because it’s not just a photo, but an entire experience. We create relationships based on trust and creativity that we create together and they put their trust in me. The fact that they choose me as their photographer fills my cup overflowing with gratitude. I’m grateful to be part of Greater Orlando and look forward to many, many more sessions with the locals and families visiting on vacation!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been an easy road to success. In an over saturated market of photographers, you have to stand out to be noticed and have an online presence 24/7. Social media is a huge stepping stone in how we market these days, so if you’re technologically challenged this will hinder your business aspect.
My job never stops, whether it’s writing a blog about a recent session, latest trends, or importance of contracts, to replying to client emails, to scoping out new locations. It doesn’t feel dreadful though, as I love showing my creative side with ads, blogs, or posts.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Being a professional photographer, there are important business aspects to have that everyone should consider when hiring a photographer. I am licensed and insured to protect both myself and my clients so if anything can go awry, we’re covered! I am prepared for the worst, but hopeful for the best.
Aside from the back end of things, I am 100% client focused because if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be in business! I specialize in family, maternity, portrait, lifestyle newborn, elopement and senior portrait photography.
My most proud photos are from the unplanned moments. It’s funny how you can try to preplan a session in your mind, but when you get there things always pan out differently. Light will shine through a spot that I will migrate near, or I will use a bench I never noticed before to place my subjects on. Improvising is a must for success, so when this happens on its own, I feel excited and proud.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I am fluent in American Sign Language and have worked with the Florida Registered Interpreters for the Deaf at their events. Using my skill of sign language AND photography is the ultimate high for me and brings me the most joy.
I’m a bit of a linguistic and can speak Spanish and know 11 other language main phrases. Growing up, we had a lot of foreign exchange students stay with us to experience American culture, so my ear has been immersed in international culture my whole life. I think experiencing other cultures has helped me adapt to all kinds of clients who have hired me. My biggest concern, aside from producing amazing photos, is to be respectful of people’s boundaries and requests.
