Inspiring Conversations with Dr. Kristie Nguyen PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristie Nguyen.

Kristie Nguyen

Hi Kristie, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I knew in Junior High that I wanted to be an optometrist. Helping people brings me great joy, and being an eye doctor allows me to do that with a flexible schedule. After 11 years, I started to lose my passion for my work. The monotony of familiarity that has brought me comfort also contributes to the lack of joy I used to find in my work. I prayed about it and decided my next challenge involved a direct sales company in skincare. As I focused on learning to challenge myself by stepping out of my comfort zone, I learned skills to brand myself on social media. Consistently putting myself out there and networking with others helped reignite my passion for eyecare as I merged the skills I learned from one business and applied them to the other. Fast forward; it’s been 7 years since I’ve reinvented myself. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished, and I eagerly share my journey to hopefully inspire other females out there that all things are possible if we give ourselves a chance.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
It has been a challenging road. Entrepreneurship is full of ups and downs. People you thought would be your supporters weren’t, while those you are less close to were more open to giving you their support. So many late nights and sacrifices of time to build momentum to get your business running. More “No” than “Yes” when asking for support. Moments where you doubt if you’re made for this kind of challenge and compare your growth to others who seem to shine.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an optometrist. I’ve been practicing for 18 years in the Orlando area in various practice settings, from private to Retail. Recently, I leased an office inside of SEE Eyewear in Winter Park, FL. I have many automated equipment to help streamline my eye exams, making it easy and convenient for my patients to get quality eye care. I’m always adding innovative products and technology to the office that can benefit my patients’ lives. My newest addition is starting a dry eye clinic for my patients utilizing Radio-frequency and Intense Pulse Light (IPL) therapy.

Do you have any advice for those just starting?
I have a few advice, but I’ll keep it simple.

  1. Make sure you network by attending local and regional meetings. You’ll never know when you’ll need a personal reference or referral.
  2. Breathe. You’ve made it this far and are not alone in it. Many resources and organizations can help you find the answers you need.
  3. Build your brand, be bold, and use social media.
