Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristine Owens.
Hi Kristine, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I always knew one day I wanted to work with kids…even when I was a kid! A friend introduced me to the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and I was hooked. I worked for quite a few years with children that had varying diagnoses and helped many parents learn the right strategies to improve their children’s behavior at home. However, as a parent myself, I realized that all parents could use this kind of support. Parenting is one of the hardest jobs there is, yet it is one that doesn’t require any kind of formal training! As parents, we sometimes get stuck in a way of responding to our children’s behavior that just isn’t working or we are unsure of how to respond at all…that’s where I come in! I started Family First Behavior because I am passionate about empowering caregivers and helping them achieve a stronger, happier family.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest challenge has been getting the word out to parents that this kind of support is available. I’ve been lucky enough to connect with local preschool and daycare directors as well as local pediatricians to help spread the word to parents that need help. Also, the pandemic forced me to change the way in which I was providing services by necessitating a virtual support option. However, this has actually been a great way to implement parent coaching without being an additional variable present in the home.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Family First Behavior?
Family First Behavior’s mission is to provide family-focused behavior services which empower caregivers and their children to reach their full potential. We will help you identify why your child is displaying unwanted behaviors and provide you with one on one coaching, so you will learn strategies to decrease and prevent problem behaviors. You will receive the support and training you need to know how to create real behavior change in your home, whether you’re dealing with not following directions, mealtime or bedtime challenges, sibling discord, or potty training issues, we will create a plan of action including goals, and recommendations that will serve as a guide to help you on the path to creating a happier, more peaceful home environment. We are most proud of the families we have helped throughout the years who now have the tools they need to help their children learn and grow.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Seeing caregivers work through their children’s challenging behavior with confidence and ease makes me happy. I love helping families find more happiness and peace in their day to day!
