Inspiring Conversations with Lequita Sharrock of Sharrock Media Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lequita Sharrock.

Hi Lequita, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a woman who wears many hats. I’m a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. But that’s only half the story.

I’m a woman of God – who through his blessings – has overcome domestic abuse, homelessness, mental health ailments and a breast cancer diagnosis in 2010.

Today, I stand firmly rooted on his faithfulness. I am ever so thankful he’s created in me a heart for servanthood to humanity. This level of energy is the fuel in my tank that drives my many spirit-led initiatives of my personal and professional life.

As a businesswoman, I am humbled to work as CEO of Sharrock Media Group. Founded in 2016, our company has branches that span from broadcasting to life coaching. A signature component of SMG with deep roots in community service is Beyond The Booth, Inc. This is a 501 c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to producers, engineers and recording artists.

The creation of Beyond The Booth, Inc. was a spiritual download to address cries of the heart.

My initial introduction to the inner workings of the creative process came from my oldest son: Guilty Taylor, a music producer. I learned of the importance of having a space to network with like-minded individuals. They also yearn to have programs geared to their interests outside the studio or stage.

After taking a consulting assignment at a recording studio in Tallahassee, Fla., I received further confirmation about the need for this type of outlet. The engineers, producers and artists who booked sessions expressed the same sentiments. This engulfed a fire within me to take action.

After much prayer and fasting, the Holy Spirit downloaded the idea of Beyond The Booth. The founding of our grassroots NPO was in June 2020. Despite the obstacles of a pandemic and fleeting support, I remained obedient to the Lord.

We offer a platform for music creatives to receive help in various areas. The establishment of programs clears space for them to focus on their creativity. All work with Beyond the Booth is performed on a virtual volunteer basis.

Over the past year, we’ve made connections with professionals from across the country. They have expertise in mental health, ministry, education and business.

Recently, we received an honorable mention prize of a grant from Guidewell Innovation. This covers Beyond The Booth and Married two the Game community life groups and Legacy City Chapters. The BTB Legacy City Chapters are hubs designed to support members in specific metro areas. Our M2G Legacy City Chapters focus on couples in the music, sports, media, arts and entertainment industries.

Both avenues are a safe space to communicate and establish lasting ties.

My service workload also extends to podcasting. I am the host of UnStoppable with Lequita Sharrock. The premise of this show deals with applying faith-based actions to achieve resilient results.

I’ve interviewed musicians, ministers, music producers, audio engineers, singers, rappers, authors and business executives.

In January 2021, I began working as a guest columnist with the Tallahassee Democrat. These articles appear in the faith section online and in print. This has served as an additional platform to share positivity and business information.

Over the past year, my name has been at the forefront with our for-profit and NPO. However, I’m best suited being in the background. My focus for life in ranking others is Jesus, others and then myself.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing in life is smooth. Our obstacles are finances, exposure and harvest workers.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

How do you think about luck?
For me, it’s not a matter of good or bad luck. Everything is divine-ordered steps by God. I am walking by faith and not by sight.
