Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Smart.
Hi Michael, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story started just outside of Boston, Massachusetts. I was born in MA and have lived there on and off throughout my life. Growing up, I had always dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player. When my family moved to FL, this dream became more attainable, as I was able to play year-round at a highly competitive level. I played from the time I was 12 years old until I graduated high school. During this time, my dream was slowly taken away due to my diagnosis of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. From the ages of 14-19, I had 9 surgeries to relieve my symptoms. Several doctors told me I would never be able to have a job that required physical labor and heavy stress on my upper body, specifically my arms and shoulders. However, God had another plan. When my dream of playing baseball was no longer a reality, I pursued the military. Due to my extensive medical history, I was denied by all branches. This led me to find an interest in law enforcement. I served as a police officer for several years, and during that time, I won several awards, including “Rookie of the Year,” Employee of the Quarter,” Life Saving Award,” and several other accomplishments. This time of my life provided me with many new skills, as a result of my experience and training as a police officer.
After this time, I managed a local car wash and detail center. I used the opportunity to really perfect my detailing craft and knowledge. Then when COVID hit, I felt God guiding me to open my own company. Many people open their own company because they dislike working for someone else. I opened my own company because I knew if I gave the effort and work ethic I provided daily to someone else as an employee, the sky was the limit as the owner.
Now, here we are, two years later and Smart Mobile Detailing has been successfully operating and is known as one of the most reputable detailing companies in Orlando. In 2022, we were nominated for and won “Best New Business” by the people of Winter Garden. This brings us to today – my story is ever changing and growing, as I am, and as my business is. It’s been a true journey, one that I’m grateful for every step of the way.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Of course not! Anything worth doing is going to take a lot of work. It’s a daily grind and a struggle; being a business owner means you never get to turn it off. I’m the first person in my immediate family to own and operate a successful business. A lot of what I know now has been learned by me simply trying my hardest to succeed. Every day is a learning curve and failure is a great teacher. However, it allows me to improve myself, and my company in the process. I started Smart Mobile Detailing with three-thousand dollars worth of savings. I’ve always known the road to success would be bumpy, which is why I continue to have grit and discipline, because it is a road I am honored to take.

Smart Mobile Detailing was started in August 2021. We specialize in high-quality detailing services such as professional paint corrections, ceramic coatings, and full interior details. Smart Mobile Detailing is known for many things, but most importantly to me, we are known for our exceptional customer service.
