Hi Naiciry, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always had a passion for beauty and if anyone can tell you, eyebrows specifically. Growing up, I’ve always had really thick eyebrows that joined in the middle giving me a uni-brow, so I’ve always kept up the grooming. I’ve been threading my eyebrows since I was 12 years old, and maybe it happened the way it was supposed to, but I’ve always gone to the same brow lady for myself because I inherently knew that a consistent tech was better for my brow goals.
Well in 2019, pre-covid, I was working as a corporate event planner and had a large speaking engagement to host. I tried booking an appointment with my faithful brow lady, but the timing just wasn’t working for us, and I NEEDED my brows done because it’s a confidence boost. Instead of rushing and going to a new tech who I didn’t know or knew their work (I didn’t realize I could find service providers on IG), I figured I’d try it myself. That prompted me to pick up a thread, go on YouTube University and learn the basics of how to move a thread. I’ve always been a student of brow thread because I’ve always been amazed at how a cotton thread can create clean, perfect lines, so I would watch her work on me and others.
I was able to clean my brows enough to feel confident standing in front of hundreds of people. I realized I loved how they came out and the feeling of being able to say I cleaned them up with a thread, so I continued to practice on myself. My family then asked if I could practice on them, which after a few nervous tries, I decided to also see if the girls in my corporate job were interested in allowing me to try and they were. That started an obsession with learning facial anatomy and proper hair removal for different facial features and skin.
During covid, I was laid off and took the opportunity to earn my Esthetician License and learn as much as I could to properly service the fast-growing business that was already forming and give my clients the confidence boost I know a brow transformation provides.
See, not many people realize, but your brows are what pulls your facial features together and gives character to your facial expressions. Want to try it? Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Everything new will always have its challenges. Some of the areas that I’ve struggled with was being vulnerable enough to share my work and understanding that it’s not going to be perfect every time.
