Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Teuchert.
Hi Natalie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We’re a family-owned business that began as an idea during the COVID pandemic. At the time, Natalie was working as a mechanical engineer but was looking for a change of pace and more flexibility as a mom. When she got married in 2017, there weren’t many wedding and event venue options in the area, and that sparked the vision for something new. She teamed up with her mom Bonnie, brother David, and grandmother Sandra as partners and investors—and that’s how the dream took root. While the world can be unpredictable, our family firmly believes in celebrating life’s joyful moments. What better way to do that than by creating a place where others can do the same? We started the process in 2021 and opened up in February 2024.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Opening a small business is never a smooth ride—especially one tied to construction. We navigated a complex maze: city planning and approvals, securing SBA funding, managing construction timelines, weather delays, and building the business itself entirely from the ground up. It took relentless effort and resilience just to get our doors open—and even more to keep them that way.
One of the biggest challenges was sustaining the business financially while we weren’t yet operational. Every construction delay felt like walking a tightrope. To stay ahead, we had to get creative. We started booking events before we officially opened—no easy task when your “venue” is still a work-in-progress. Most people want to see a polished, finished space before committing, especially for major events like weddings, which are typically booked a year in advance. Waiting until we opened would’ve meant a full year before hosting our first event. As the space took shape, the bookings got easier, but those early months were tough.
Another hurdle was learning to work with my brother David in a new way. Transitioning from siblings to business partners came with its own set of challenges. It took months to figure out our roles, responsibilities, and how to blend our different working styles.
Now, in 2025, we’ve come a long way. The startup phase is behind us. We’ve found our rhythm, and running events is simply what we do. We’re no longer building a business—we’re operating one.
We’ve been impressed with The Wedding Barn, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Wedding Barn is a charming, family-owned event venue nestled in the heart of Central Florida. Designed to create unforgettable experiences, our picturesque space blends rustic charm with modern comfort. Built in 2023, the venue features full air conditioning, a spacious cocktail patio, a custom bar, elegant dressing suites, and a catering prep kitchen.
As a premier destination for weddings, receptions, and private events, we specialize in hosting gatherings of 50 to 200 guests. If you love the barn-style aesthetic but want to skip the downsides of a traditional barn, we’re the perfect fit. Conveniently located just 10 minutes from UCF and Sanford—and within 30 minutes of both Orlando and Sanford airports—we’re close enough for guests to catch a quick Uber or Lyft. We have fully paved parking available on site as well.
What truly sets The Wedding Barn apart is our flexibility. We offer customizable packages, including one of the few DIY (do-it-yourself) options still available in the area. You’re welcome to bring in your own licensed and insured vendors to bring your unique vision to life. Not a big planner? Let us do the work. We also offer all-inclusive packages where everything is taken care of—you just bring your officiant and get ready to celebrate. We offer micro weddings, elopements, full size weddings, large dressing suites, and a large cocktail patio. We’ll celebrate just about anything.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family and my community is the heart of my happiness. Growing up, we were always taught to cherish love, laughter, and the importance of celebrating together. That tradition lives on—we still gather every Sunday for family dinner, with four generations around the table.
Maybe that’s why I’m so passionate about bringing people’s visions to life. Every event we host is unique, and it’s an honor to witness those once-in-a-lifetime moments. There are few occasions in life when entire families come together and grow in number. Being part of someone’s celebration—and helping create memories that last a lifetime—is truly a privilege.
