Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Longmire
Hi Nicole , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! Yes, so the work I do is deeply personal and my passion for what I do comes from my own experiences. My practice is called Mother Nurture Consulting and Wellness and I provide support for women such as life coaching, lactation consulting, grief and loss support, and overall women’s wellness.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
So I have not always done this type of work, I actually switched careers in my 30s! And yes,I encountered many obstacles along my path. First, changing careers at 37 meant that I had to ask myself some tough questions! Previously I was a teacher and worked in education administration. It took a lot of courage to step out and answer “the call” so to speak. But I’ve always had a passion for working with women and specifically working with mothers.
Shortly after I made the pivot, Covid hit and I had to rethink my plans and reimagine ways of obtaining the additional training I needed to see it through. My husband is in the USAF and we actually ended up getting stationed overseas in late 2020 too! So yeah, the punches just kept coming I guess! Germany was great, I was able to immerse myself in the community, I did volunteer work with the Red Cross and completed clinical hours as a lactation consultant at the army hospital. I even had a great opportunity to work with an organization that helped Provide community support to new moms who were ex-pats in the area. About halfway through our time there, though, I had our son, Owen. He was born with severe heart defects, and we lost him when he was five weeks old.
This tragedy thrust me into a crisis of faith and career; and I feared I would not be able to continue working with mothers after all— I was worried it would be too triggering.
We moved back to Florida shortly after his death in 2022 and about six months later, I felt ready to get back into the work that I’m so passionate about. There’s of course a lot of healing work that I had to do, and I’m still doing. It really did lay the foundation for the work I do today, though.
So In the three years since Owen’s death, I have opened my own private practice serving women in my community in a variety of capacities. My work is a foundational part of my healing journey and really it is a way that I stay connected to my son.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Absolutely! First, I really have to say that it is through my work as an IBCLC lactation consultant, helping women day in and day out achieve something so monumental as feeding their baby from their body,I have come to see that mothering is not a concept limited to parenting—it’s this universal, healing energy available to us all. Also, through my grief journey, this has been sort of a golden thread if you will.
So this is really what led me to want to do even more and to expand to the other types of support I provide. Honestly, my holistic and trauma informed approach that were really born out of my own personal experience is what really sets me apart. I have a unique lens that I really don’t think a lot of providers have.
Again I have training and certifications in childbirth education, lactation consulting, grief and loss, and most recently, life coaching and my educational background is in education and public health. So, I really am the full package!
I am located in Melbourne, Florida, but I also provide telehealth support to anyone in the world. For those in my community, my services are generally provided in my office, but I also can provide in-home support for women in the perinatal period. Whether that’s prenatal education and coaching, the transition to motherhood, clinical lactation support, in-home practical support, you name it!
I also just launched a few self-paced online courses that are part of my goal to make healing and wellness available to everyone— and it’s not specific to mothers, but all women.
But, one of the things that I’m most excited about is my upcoming women’s retreat for women over 40!
I know firsthand the importance of creating brave and safe spaces where women can openly share their stories, express their emotions, and navigate their journeys without judgment which is always what I strive for in the support I provide.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Well, the first thing to know is that I still have a few spots left in the upcoming retreat! It is taking place March 5-9 in Saint Augustine, Florida. It is not specific to grief , motherhood, or anything other than being a woman in this phase of your life. It’s going to be really special! There’s tons of information about it on my website. So any woman who has thought about going on a healing or transformational retreat with other women definitely reach out to me!
