Today, we’d like to introduce you to Olivia The Skin Therapist
Hi Olivia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Thank you so much for having me! Ever since I was young, I’ve always enjoyed skincare. You know, I was the average teen popping all of the blackheads on my nose, using nose strips, and even the dreadful “St. Ives Apricot Scrub,” which is famous for all of the wrong reasons. The list goes on.
When I was in High School, I never really knew where I would go with my career. I had no idea what my next step was. Would I go to college? I just didn’t know. At 18, I wound up working on a little cruise ship for a short period of time. It was over in Seattle, Washington, and we sailed through the Puget Sound where our main port was. Safe to say, the 15-hour days, every single day, made me realize I needed to figure something else out. I ended up in Texas, where a High School friend told me about how she went to school for esthetics. I looked more into it, and realized that it took two things I genuinely love doing: helping others, and self-care. It sounded like the perfect fit! I started school at 19 years old, thinking I was going to get into Botox and Fillers. I even took a Certification for laser hair removal!
During my time at school, life really threw some curveballs my way, but hey… that’s life, right? I graduated, worked at Medical Spa for a while, and life started taking me in a different direction. I had an incredible opportunity to live in Italy for 9 months, which allowed me to travel all throughout Europe. I met so many beautiful people along the way. As my time in Europe came to an end, I moved back to Florida, and then BOOM! Just a few months later, COVID happened. I think safe to say that everyone was in a bit of a rut for a while. I was fortunate enough to be working at a Spa prior to things shutting down, but in that time, not really knowing much on what was going to happen was not ideal. Working on other people’s faces all day, I really started to contemplate on whether or not I should stay in esthetics. I stuck to it, though, and in the midst of all this craziness, I feel that now, more than ever, self-care is extremely important.
I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. What I thought was just me walking into a hair salon one day, making small talk with the hairstylist, somehow turned into the owner of the salon overhearing that I was an Esthetician. She mentioned she had a room for rent, and soon a few days and conversations went by to turn what was only a dream of mine into my reality at age 23.
It has barely been a year, and it has definitely been quite the ride. The past year, despite all the learning, failing, and self-doubting, has taught me to celebrate the little wins, and remember that things take time!
The people and clients I have met along the way have been nothing short of extraordinary, and make every day worth it. Getting to help others, not only with their skin, but with the type of confidence one has when they finally feel comfortable in it is such a blessing. Getting to work one on one with people, with them putting their trust in you to help them is such a rewarding feeling. I could not imagine myself being anywhere else.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been the easiest road, but I am fortunate enough to have a very strong support system of people who really believe in me and my passion. One of my main struggles has been having to build a new clientele from scratch. When you realize that you are in charge of everything, and you don’t report to anyone, (which is a blessing and a curse) things get a lot more daunting, but also freeing in a way. Something I think I will always continue practicing and mastering is self-discipline.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a Licensed Esthetician, (Skin Therapist) I help people who struggle with acne, rosacea, anti-aging, and more! All of my facials are customized to my client and their personal skincare needs! I think there are so many amazing estheticians out there, so I’m not quite sure what to say that necessarily sets me apart. I feel like we all bring so many great qualities to the field, and at the end of the day, we just want what is best for our clients. What I can say is that my passion for esthetics is shown on the faces of my clients and the results I bring to them. I can guarantee that I will work hard to help each of my clients achieve their skin goals. I do offer specialty treatments such as Oxygen, LED Therapy, and a fun twist on a Chemical Peels, Firming Peptides, and more!
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I think one of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that MOST of the time, you get what you put out. Things are not just going to fall into your lap, to create a successful business. Things take time, but if you can go to bed knowing that you really poured your heart into what you are trying to grow, then that is all you can do; just continue to trust the process. I learned pretty quickly, especially growing up in this day and age where social media makes it look easier than ever, that things take time. Even though everything is at our fingertips or at our doorstep in a matter of a day, you can’t rush something you build yourself.
