Today we’d like to introduce you to Peggy Renshaw.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Tuned-In Wellness came to be out of a desire to create a space where I could offer massage therapy as I had been for 15 years at that point, as well as branch out into the world of sound healing which didn’t fit very well in the spa environment I was currently in. It was quite a leap of faith; I had never gone out on my own before. But the support from my community and those who I had built a relationship made it possible. I officially opened my doors in a smaller location March 2021 and quickly established myself as a bit of a guidepost for those seeking natural ways of healing and pain/ stress relief. One of the things I have done from day one is keep a collection if business cards from different practitioners in the area so that no matter what a client is dealing with, they can have a resource to check out. No one person can offer every single modality that can benefit each person, which is why I like the term “guidepost” as I enjoy helping point people in the direction they want to go next in their healing journey. It’s a priveledge to have great relationships with others in the community who are also seeking to help to offer alternative means that can benefit individual’s needs on their healing journeys. I moved into my larger location in 2023 which allowed me to have more space to continue offering massages, more/larger sound meditations, classes, community meetings, a meeting spot for a local walking history tour and a very special little gift shop that focuses on supporting local and small businesses as well as offering therapeutic items, herbs, essential oils, etc. My little studio has grown and evolved as the needs of the community has grown and evolved. We are beginning herbal classes soon and our sound bath meditations are growing and loved by everyone who attends. It’s been such a blessing to witness something beautiful grow out of necessity. I’ve so glad that I didn’t let any fear prevent me from taking this plunge into business ownership. I really don’t run my shop like most people do. It’s truly just become exactly what the community needs and I am having fun watching it continue to grow however it’s meant to.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The main struggle I’ve run into is that most of the time that I’m in the studio, I’m in the massage room working with clients. My shop is very rarely open except for during events. I’m not quite at the point of wanting to hire someone to run the shop, so this is working for now. There isn’t much foot traffic so having open shop hours didn’t work well anyway. It’s just me at the business most of the time and that can be hard to run everything on my own. Sometimes I think I should just simplify and do massage only, but I’ve had so many experiences where someone has been blessed by the other offerings or by supporting the shop that I know the effort is worth it. I just have to continue to seek balance between the time I spend running the studio and my home life.
As you know, we’re big fans of Tuned-In Wellness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Most of what I do is massage. This is a 20 long year career where I’ve been able to train extensively in many modalities. Medical massage, prenatal, reflexology, bamboo, and sound healing just to name a few. But I love being able to offer herbs and aromatherapy. I love being able to put together all of things I love about natural healing together in one place. I grew up as a musician so it’s really fun to combine my career with my love of music in offering sound bath meditations. I feel that while I’m mostly sought out for my body work, I’m becoming more and more well known for my sound bath meditations. One of my most popular and favorite offerings is a collaboration with a friend where participants get to experience a sound bath combined with acupuncture.
What matters most to you? Why?
Being able to provide life enhancing, quality work and help individuals find what they need to experience a greater quite of life through natural means and community is what I try to focus on. I have built a place that I wish had existed when I first started down a more natural path.
