Today we’d like to introduce you to Raquel Bird
Hi Raquel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my career as a Finance professional. I worked in finance for 25 years. We got the opportunity to move to England with my husband’s job. When we moved I became a full time stay at home mom. We lived in England for a couple of years. When we moved back we settled in Connecticut. When my youngest started school full time I went back to work as a bookkeeper part time. Fast forward to September 2024, we decided to sell our home in Connecticut and move to Florida. I held various bookkeeping roles in Florida but with my kids school and sports schedule it was hard to maintain the traditional 9-5 job. I was speaking to a friend about how I needed more flexibility in my schedule and she suggested becoming a travel agent with Cruise Planners. We love to travel and before the pandemic we did a lot of traveling. I decided to become a travel agent with Cruise Planners because of my love for travel. I have always planned our family vacations and so naturally becoming a travel agent was perfect. In July 2024 I took the leap to become a travel agent and have been loving it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Getting the franchise was a smooth process. Cruise Planners offers so much training to help you get started. I attended a week long training to get started with my business. My biggest challenge is social media. I’m in the process of learning how to post on the different social media platforms and using social media to my advantage.

I am a full-service Travel Agent. I can book all types of vacations-land, All Inclusive, Cruises. etc. When booking with me my client will get expert advice and personalized service. I can tailor trips based on my clients’ preferences, budget, and travel style. I handle all the research, planning and booking, saving my client countless hours. Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
By nature, I am not a risk taker. Becoming an Entrepeneur and starting my own travel business has been the biggest risk I have taken in my life. I have met incredible people so far on this journey and have learned so much about the travel business, but I also learned how courageous and confidant I am. I have been pushed outside of my comfort zone and have grown so much from starting my own business. Without taking risks, you don’t realize your potential to achieve great things.
