Inspiring Conversations with Robert Johnson of Robert L Johnon LLC /Keller Williams Advantage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Johnson

Hi Robert, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised in Winter Park, Fl. Went to all the local public schools. I had restaurant jobs and then was a General Manager for a local Blueprinter shop at age 22. On Jan. 04, 2000, I left this business, and my wife and I took over the family flower shop business. Buying the shop and running it for 25 years. After 25 years of marriage, my wife wanted a divorce and we got divorced. The business stayed with her and I had to start over. I always loved real estate, one of my favorite shows was House Hunters, (no longer now though, LOL). I started to think of an occupation where I could still be my own boss and continue my job career. Being your own boss for over 24 years, it is hard to start over. I looked at how to become one. Took the local classes and passed my local test with a 96%. Then I traveled to Melbourne, FL to take the state-level exam. I passed this test on my first try. I then got my license and went out to interview different brokerages. Today, I am going on 7 years. I love what I do and love helping others. I wish I started it a long time ago. Maybe I will be married still. LOL… When asked what I love the most being a realtor, It is the people that I deal with. Having money is great to live, Except my heart is really in helping people. Seeing a smile on someone’s face and knowing I was involved in these people starting a new journey, makes me excited to help the next person.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My struggles are mainly having many life changes within one year. Major car accident, getting divorced, becoming a part-time Dad to my two wonderful daughters, Had to find a new place to live, Started over from scratch after 28 years of being with the same person and having a business, and My mother passing. With real estate, the struggles were starting from scratch with no knowledge and no one to assist right away. Being a part-time dad with travel while starting up a real estate career.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Residential Real Estate. Helping buyers and seller sell and buy homes. Helping renters find places to live besides apartments.
Like my slogan says, “Simplifying Real estate from contract to close!” I tell my customers that the real estate process should be a fun one. If it is not then there is a problem. My job is to assist with any issues for a smooth transaction. You should know that I go over and beyond to help my customers. My phone is always on to assist them. I actually tell them you can text in the middle of the night with questions and I will see them the next morning. I would rather have you do this than to forget what it was. I do make them aware not to be surprised if i text back. Im up late. I can tell you of about three time I have done a contract with a customer at 2am. LOL. I specialize in Real Estate Residential Sales. I am known for a honest, go getter, caring, and going beyond the call of duty. Going out of my way is a normal policy with my business. I am proud of myself and what I have become over the years with all the obstacles. I have belonged to other brokerages and the one I am at now I belive in. The readers should know that I am not an agent that just takes a listing and sits around and wait. You are not just another number. I bring customer service within real estate. Coming from over 35 years of being a General manger and owner in retail business dealing with customers I know how to run a business and put customers first. Knowing I always put there needs first and making sure things work to get to losing. I have been know to do many things, like going over to mow, weedeat and blow sellers home that refused to do it. Naotgher one I went over and cut a tree down and hauled it away because the seller could not afford it. Going beyond is my normal, always has been all my life. Other agents question why I do so much, My answer , Why don’t you? This is customer service, not just a sign here please….

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I would recommend anyone looking to get into real estate to have money saved up. They told me to have at least 6 months for bills. I would actually say longer, this way you are not worried. In the beginning, it is work hard, you need to go out of your comfort box. Call and talk to people you don’t know. Being an extrovert this is very easy for me. Except for talking on the phone, much better in person. Knowing what is involved and the start-up costs of real estate is a plus also. No surprises. Something else I would suggest is if at all possible, to find a brokerage that you want to go with, sign up with them, and see if you can transition prior to actually wor there. Meaning if you are coming from another job, you are still able to still work there while you ask about getting cards, getting you set up with a CRM, internal systems, or anything you need to be successful with that brokerage. I see many new agents that start this career and they don’t even have cards, or know what they are doing with the new software. Having knowledge is power I always say. Yes, brokerages have training, and people don’t have cards, still, If I talk to someone in this digital age, everyone still asks me, do you have a card? It is very professional to give one than to say, they are still being printed. I wish I knew how much I love doing what I do, I would have started earlier, at least part-time. Running my business and being a part-time agent. Getting my feet wet sooner. Now I will tell you being a part-time agent really is hard, you are most successful being full-time.
