Inspiring Conversations with Sabira Mawji of Pixels by Sabi LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabira Mawji

Hi Sabira, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into photography started in middle school when I joined the yearbook committee. While everyone else focused on writing and layout design, I was the one always behind the camera, fascinated by the way a single image could tell a whole story. That love for capturing moments led me to major in Journalism and Human Communications at the University of Central Florida in 2015. While I studied writing and media, photography remained my creative escape and was able to find work through this field. I interned then later was hired by an international wedding photographer and worked weekends at a local portrait studio in Sanford.

For years, photography was something I did on the side—weekend sessions, small projects, squeezing it in between everything else. But in 2020, when the world hit pause, I took a leap. I launched my photography business full-time with a new website and introduced my first-ever Eid Mini Sessions. Since big celebrations were on hold, I traveled to my clients’ doorsteps, making sure they had memories to hold onto—even from a safe distance. That first year, the sessions sold out, and they’ve been a Ramadan tradition in Central Florida ever since.

Over time, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph just about everything—maternity, weddings, proposals, graduating seniors, newborns and of course families. Lately, I’ve been diving into branding photography, and I love it. Working with small businesses to bring their vision to life through images is something that excites me in a whole new way.

When I’m not behind the camera, I’m usually on the sidelines of my son’s soccer matches, playing on the pickleball or volleyball court, or making a mess in the kitchen with my three boys.

Being a hijabi photographer in Central Florida, especially within the Muslim community, is something I don’t take for granted. I never imagined turning my hobby into a career, but here I am, doing what I love every single day.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Running a business while being a full-time mom has been one of my biggest challenges. For years, my photography dreams were on the back burner because my boys were always my priority. Between school drop-offs, my little one at home, soccer practices, and everyday chaos, there was little time to truly grow my business. Today, I finally have an office setup and working hard to make my dream my reality.

Photography is an expensive craft, and keeping up with the latest equipment is a challenge. For years, I struggled with outdated gear and couldn’t afford all the fees that come with running a full-time business—editing software, lenses, marketing, and the endless little expenses that add up so fast. I fell behind because I simply didn’t have the means to invest in what I needed. Few years later, I was finally able to upgrade my equipment to ensure I can provide the best images for my clients.

I always remind myself that with every hardship comes with ease. The struggles have been real, but they’ve also pushed me to be resourceful, patient, and persistent. Growth takes time, and I’ve learned to embrace that process while staying focused on my goals.

We’ve been impressed with Pixels by Sabi LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Looking ahead, I am excited to take on more weddings and continue expanding my work in branding photography. Connecting with small businesses and helping their branding shine through high-quality imagery has been incredibly fulfilling, and I look forward to growing in this space even more.
