Inspiring Conversations with Serennah Thomas of Seren Soigné

Today we’d like to introduce you to Serennah Thomas.

Hi Serennah, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always wanted to make perfume. However, I didn’t know where to start and I didn’t have the time to do the research to learn. February 2020, I wasn’t working and had nothing but time. I started researching and experimenting. I started with four perfumes and they all smelt horrible lol! I made four more and let almost all of my friends and family smell them. They were a hit! My male best friend thought I should try to make colognes. I proceeded to try out colognes, I started out with three and they were a hit as well! Fast forward a good friend of mine was helping me during my early on process and thought I should sell car air fresheners because my fragrances smelt so good and from there, I started adding more products. I now have four perfumes and four colognes. I’ve added so many more products I just want to continue to grow. My sister who passed away in December 2021 from leukemia helped me from the very start with helping my foundation and letting me know what comes with having a business. She’s a reason for me to never give up!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I first launched and announced my business it was great! I was consistent I had Shopify notifications left and right. I was happy as ever that people were loving my craft! After about 8 or 9 months I took a break to rebrand and give my customers better products for my 1-year anniversary of my business just because I felt like it’s always room for growth and improvement. I relaunched and I didn’t get the same response as before. My products were the same I just changed my logo and etc. Those Shopify notifications just weren’t how they were before. I didn’t too much get discouraged but I thought like dang, I gotta get back right this isn’t the outcome I was looking for. I took it as I stopped selling so people may have forgotten about my small business. So now I try my best to stay consistent and do things like go to small business expos or even try to do pop-up shops to get my business out there more.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I specialize in handmade perfume, cologne, little kids perfume and cologne, candles, car air fresheners, home reed diffusers, toilet bowl sprays, home air fresheners, hand sanitizers, and personalized car air fresheners. I’m known for being the smell good lady lol everyone knows me for making perfume but I do more than that. What sets me apart from everyone else is my passion for what I do and everything being handmade I put dedication and hard work into making every product and making sure each customer is satisfied.

I’m most proud of my repeated customers that’s how you know you have great products! If they weren’t good, they wouldn’t come back.

My products are very reasonable. I’m so generous I’m always giving away extra products. Also, I’m currently looking for brand ambassadors to try to expand my brand to people who don’t know me and love smell goods and would love to try out my products.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was shy lol I’m the only child on my mom’s side. I was by myself for the most part. I made friends here and there but I moved around growing up so it was hard to stay in touch with people. As a child when people would ask what I wanted to be after every few years I changed my interest lol I went from wanting to be a teacher, a lawyer and then a journalist. In my teenage years is where I grew my interest in perfume. I’m still shy as an adult but I’m more outgoing now. I went to college to pursue being a journalist and then that changed when I had my son. I’ve been a pharmacy technician for 8 years now and I have my business Seren Soigné.
