Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the most challenging moments are internal. It’s the fight against imposter syndrome and the pressure to constantly prove credibility, expertise, and relatability, especially in an era shaped by stigma and the advancements of technology. It has also been challenging to shift the narrative from counseling being viewed as a luxury to being recognized as a necessity.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In her clinical and consulting work as a private practice owner, Shatira provides assessment, individual, couples, and family therapy. She also provides supervision to counseling interns, support/psychoeducational groups, and guidance/consultation to professionals and individuals seeking to disrupt the maladaptive behavioral patterns that have kept them stuck. Through her private practice and creative initiatives, she works to provide exceptional and equitable mental health care to underserved populations, including women of color, HBCU’s, LGBTQIA+ individuals, couples, and young adults navigating the challenges of dependency systems.

How does Shatira work?
She curates spaces where clients can show up authentically, process their experiences, and cultivate resilience/post traumatic growth. Her work is both clinical and creative. She enjoys blending traditional therapeutic frameworks with innovative, expressive tools like music, movement, journals, and coloring books that encourage reflection and healing through self-expression.

She enjoys creating therapeutic tools like:

o Declarations & Reflections: Radical Self-Acceptance Journal
o Living the L Out Loud: Adult Lesbian Coloring Book
o Coping & Coloring: Adult Coloring Book

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My Creator deserves the credit first. He has guided me toward my purpose and through that purpose, he has continually made provision for me. I also honor the peaks and valleys in my life. The storms I once feared would drown me but instead taught me how to swim. I am deeply grateful for my younger sisters, Shaniece and Shatiece. I have always wanted to be for them the example I never had. And lastly, I give credit to my incredibly profound village, the special people who have kept me grounded, protected, and covered every step of the way.
